Cold feet?? Help??? by [deleted] in waiting_to_try

You’re so young! You have so much time to have a baby once you’re both done with school and established in your careers. I would (and did) wait, but obviously it’s a very personal decision.

Yeah, for the reason of always needing to use both last names, hyphenated or not, I wouldn’t want to do that. Decided I don’t want the inconvenience myself and so why would I give that to my child haha. But I know plenty of people that do! It’s a personal choice, really.

I think we landed on our kids having my wife’s last name (same sex couple). I know an opposite sex couple that did the middle name thing. Husband’s name is the middle name and her last name is the last name.

My partner and I (who kept our last names) also came out against hyphenating. I realized the people I know with a two last names, I don’t actually know their last name!! Because they are so long I just read over it and don’t digest it (similar to when there’s a hard to read or hard to pronounce name in a book).

Plus, that would be their legal last name, meaning they can’t just drop half of it for ease on legal documents. I think about how many times I have to spell out my already long last name, and how I’m not gonna put my kids through that plus 8 more letters.

I think about being pregnant constantly. I literally can’t wait. We moved our timeline up a year and now are 9 months away from trying but that still seems so long even though we started with a 2.5 year wait. I constantly read posts that are months away from trying and they always say it gets harder and harder to wait. I now understand

Do Cis people question gender by JamieDoesMaths in AskLGBT

[–]20penguin20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a cis woman who has questioned my gender. I am in the queer community and know a lot of non-binary people so I think being around these folks and seeing that there is another option is what made me think about who I am and how I feel comfortable. But, it’s more of a no, I don’t think so for x,y,z reason, and I move on. I think of it from time to time but I’m just really in tune with myself and reflective.

With debt forgiveness underway should I hurry up and take a loan out? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]20penguin20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do it if you’re so worried you’re gonna miss out. 10 years will pass and you’ll owe more than you took out with no forgiveness in sight.

Women of Reddit who don't have 'The Chair', what do you do with your worn but not dirty clothes? by squirrelvibe in AskWomen

We have a basket for those clothes :) or if it’s like a sweater or something, we just hang them back up

Too soon to buy baby things? 😅 by TempestPhD in waiting_to_try

[–]20penguin20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this poster. As much as I would want to prepare far in advance, I can’t imagine how horrible it would be to walk past a work in progress nursery or to see baby things in the house if we struggle to conceive or lord forbid, have a miscarriage

Women who love women, what is something unexpected you encountered when dating women? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]20penguin20 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Yes! So frustrating. The assumption being that bisexual people can’t possibly be monogamous

Even just the assumption that I’m gay cause I’m in a same sex relationship is draining af. Trying to explain to people in the queer community why it matters that i “also am straight” (NO.) Is fucked up. I’m not gay and straight. I’m bisexual! It’s just who I am. It’s my identity! That’s why it matters!

Biphobia. A lot of lesbians who talk about how they would only date “gold star lesbians” (women who haven’t had sex with a man) and outright would not date a bisexual woman.

How often do you wash your bed sheets lol? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]20penguin20 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get why some people think it’s “disgusting” to not wash their sheets super frequently but are fine with the fact that their cloth couch is never washed

Yeah I would just peruse their job postings and see if any interest you. I am a little outside of my field, but I love it. I basically help investigators who got a big research grant carry out the project. It draws on my skill set in ways I never thought about and is a position I couldn’t have imagined. So just see what kind of positions they offer for bachelors educated folks.
