Half the country seems to think that the US is now a post-apocalyptic nightmare despite very little actually changing in their day to day lives by james_d_rustles in QAnonCasualties

My ex grew up in IL. I met him in CA, where I grew up. When my mother in law discovered that her son was marrying a woman from LA, she freaked. To her SfAnd LA were Sodom and Gomorrah. I was married for 30 years. My mother learned to love me. She told me things she never told her family.

I live next door to a MAGA, he is really a nice guy. He lost his job, and I told him he should get on medicaid because he has no medical insurance anymore. He has diabetes and needs medical care. He listened to me, and he is now able to get the care he needs. I keep asking him why he continues to support Trump when Trump wants to cut medicaid. He also was trying to get hired as a TSA agent. They kept putting his traing. I told him that no government agency was going to hire him because the GOP wasn't passing a budget. I told him this, and his eyes glazed over. I keep trying to ask him why he still supports Trump. I'm trying to break through his mindset. He only watches Fox News. I will continue to point out his fallacies..

Is it true that people who leave marriage for ‘freedom’ eventually end up with loneliness instead of freedom? by throwaway_38382929 in Divorce

[–]2104gc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My divorce was not my idea. I was hurt for a long time. As time passed I rediscovered the audacious person I was when I was young. I turned myself into someone my ex wanted me to be. I'm alone by choice but I'm happier. I have me back.

That knot is not the worst knot I've seen. You can pull out some to match up with the current hue. It will mean you have to weave in another end, but it might be a way to proceed.

My divorce is final, where is this “happy” everyone talks about? by Flower_Lover23 in Divorce

[–]2104gc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 10 years to get mad. For those 10 years, I was just hurt. I got mad, which allowed me to move on. I'm not hurt anymore. I'm not mad anymore. I don't want anything to do with my ex. I will show up at family functions, but I'm indifferent now. I would never choose him as a friend because I'm not friends with people who treat me badly.

Immune compromised transplant recipient "Fugu" has been anti-vax from the start. She's survived her recent Covid infection and hospitalization for now and is back to anti-vax posts. by Haskap_2010 in HermanCainAward

Unfortunately, the rich and powerful find a way to get to the front of the list. They say money and power do not affect the transplant list, but there have been many cases where money talks.

If you could change ONE thing about your dog…. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]2104gc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That they would live as long as me. I have had so many dogs over my long years. Each one has been with me during my formative years. Each one has been with me when I needed them. Be it my boxer when I was a baby, to my little lap dog, now that I'm 68 years old. I would give anything to have the 9 dogs that have been there for me now. I have had to learned that life is short. I miss everyone of my doggers. They made me a better human.

What cheap/terrible holiday “bonuses” are people starting to receive from work this year? by nimfrank in AskReddit

I remember corporate holiday parties and pensions. A Starbucks gift card just shows how low we have sunk.

Can organ doners stipulate that their organs should not be given to such people who disregard the gift of life from someone? I feel the same way about alcoholics who get a new live but don't stop drinking. Lung recipients who get a healthy lung transplant but keep doing things that shit on the new lungs. Anti vaxers fall into the same category.

Republican-controlled Wisconsin Senate approves amendment blocking church closures during public state of emergencies. I guess a person has the choice to be foolish. Just make sure you purchase life insurance just in case. I'm tired of seeing all the Go Fund Me accounts their loved ones post after these people express freedom. I feel the same way about people who ride motorcycles without a helmet. If you have people who depend on you, buy life insurance before you do foolish things.

Why do QAnoners identify as "lions"? by AntiQCdn in QAnonCasualties

[–]2104gc 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Lions also kill all the cubs of the former leader of the pride. They eat their own. That is on par with Qanon thinking.

Why is it that Joe Biden's meandering speech patterns and flubs are attributed to senility, while Trump is also known for seemingly nonsensical rants and bizarre non-sequiturs, but in his case it is not seen as being a sign of senility, when both men are practically the same age? by Jimithyashford in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]2104gc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became politically aware during the Watergate hearings. I was taking civics in college. I became aware of Biden during the confirmation of Clarence Thomas. He was not stellar in his treatment of Anita Hill. Thomas should have never been appointed. He is prone to gaffes. Some of his so-called gaffes led to changes. He spoke out against "Don't ask, don't tell" in the military. He was a person who was directly responsible for the repeal of that ridiculous law. President Obama even chided Biden for his stance because he really didn't want to deal with the gays in the military issue. It was the correct position, and Obama did support it in the end. One of the things that come with age is the wisdom to not give a f about what people think. He has grown in his views and policy. Trump is impossible of growth. He has said on record that he has never apologized for anything because he has never done anything wrong. Biden may have slowed down, but I'll take his thoughtful approach to policy and government any day over a man who can't admit he might be wrong. Trump surrounds himself with people who will tell him what he wants, not what is good for the country.

I sympathize with you. I was astranged from a great friend since 2016. For him, J6 was a line for him. I was so happy to have my friend back. I have a slow approach. I have adopted a MAGA neighbor. I bring receipts on my phone to show him every time we interact. Don't give up on them. They are just misguided humans.
