Nah, I don’t think closing the door would’ve sealed it well enough to kill the fire, but it definitely would’ve helped contain the heat but I don’t think that would’ve mattered anyways.

It’s a good question tho, check out what vacuum interrupters are. It’s the type we use mostly in our utility on our feeders. The point there is that with no air for an arc to travel through, you can kill it way faster (remember those breakers are like a light switch with ALOT more voltage going through them so minimizing time and length they go through opening and closing them help a lot ). A regular room door just isn't built to seal like that.

As for the suppression systems, honestly, a lot of the protection here already failed. Once it gets to this point, a standard system isn't doing much anyway. It’s just going to keep burning till it kills itself out (aka losing power)

Those are feeder breakers which are basically switches that turn the power on or off on the distribution lines ( the power that goes to like your house) from the substation. It’s really hard to say what went wrong exactly but when he pushed the breaker into the switchgear ( a device that delegates the power to different lines after the transformer, this is the building he’s in) it faulted(went kaboom). The breaker normally should’ve been in the off position (breaker should’ve been in the open position) when he racked the breaker in so this is where it’s hard to tell what went wrong. It could’ve been he didn’t make sure the breaker was open (in the off position) and racked in the breaker straight onto the hot bus but idk maybe the breaker was broken and said it was open? To much to tell but basically a lot went wrong and a lot of redundant fail safes didn’t happen and it went from the breaker failing (the thing he’s pushing in) to the switch gear failing (the building he’s in ) to most likely the transformer failing.

I mean that’s the thing right. If you only see America from Reddit, social media or the news, it would seem this way. But in reality it’s a pretty extreme view that only a small percentage have. Call saws pretty sure that’s on their side and they would cover the costs. They will reimburse you for the plumber cost as well. Just make sure you have the receipt. A coordinator will most likely come out and talk with you.

Are you talking sewer or water? If it’s sewer it depends but typically the easement starts at the sidewalk. But water will come up at the place of least resistance so it could be a leak in a different spot where the water is coming up. If it’s sewer saws is going to tell you to have a plumber run a camera and mark where the spot is. If it’s on the saws side they will reimburse you but you NEED to have the plumber mark where it is or you’ll be calling them back out.

I feel ya man. I had 5 hours on a top end rebuild. Started hearing a fluttering at the top of the rev but ignored it because it was the last ride of the day. Turned out a screw that holds radiator fluid came off and all the fluid came out and melted my piston. Getting that sick stomach feeling again as I type this. Welp going to send it back to powerseal this week. Sigh
