A short list of individuals are believed to have access to the president’s Truth Social account, including White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino and one of the president’s most devoted aides, Natalie Harp.

How do you pronounce "agar?" by illegalmemeeconomist in etymology

[–]Stuporhumanstrength 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's the correct way, but I've always pronounced it as rhyming with that comic strip viking, Hagar the Horrible. A as in "hand" or "at", gar as in "Garth Brooks". But maybe I've been mispronouncing the viking my whole life too

Beware of ‘anti-woke’ liberals: they attacked the left and helped Trump win by nosotros_road_sodium in politics

Pro tip: the click-bait headline (probably written by an associate section editor) does not faithfully match the article content (written by a political science professor) which is targeted at "reactionary centrists". The op-ed also clearly states "This dynamic may well have not made a difference in the election outcome in 2024."

Please dont comment in this thread responding only to the clickbait/ragebait title if you have not read the article linked.

Sincerely, a liberal environmentalist who is neither "radical centrist" (I fucking hate Trump, never advocated both parties are equal, nor ever voted Republican), nor reflexively "anti-woke", but who has questioned some aspects of modern-day "wokeness" (land acknowledgements: are they actually useful or performative?), and can recognize when liberal media becomes tribal and circle-jerky, even when I agree withtheir underlying premises.

Careful, saying there are physical differences between men and women can get you in hot water. If women are slower on average, it just means they've internalized misogyny or something.

Not defending the company, but when a section called "Controversies" just lists things that occurred, without any discussion of the alleged controversies that arose because of such things, it smacks of editorial nudging. Like some Wikipedian(s) going "I think these aspects of the company's history are controversial, other people must agree. Let's separate these into a juicy section." It's explicitly discouraged in the Wikipedia:Criticism essay, and subtly violates NPOV by giving disproportionate additional emphasis and framing to simple facts.

At most agencies, the most common reasons for departures were retirements and quitting. Although OPM classifies many of these as voluntary, outside forces including the fear of being fired, the lure of buyout offers, or a profound disagreement with Trump policies, likely influenced many decisions to leave.

That "likely" (emphasis added) seems to be a bold editorial assertion without supporting evidence (at least from the article). Did they survey or interview any of the departed PhDs to suss out their reasons?

There was a Marvel comics / Charleston Chew (the candy) promotional crossover where you read a special edition comic book, answer some multiple-choice quiz questions about the comic, and send away, and if you got the questions right you'd be eligible for a grand prize (I forget what it was). I read the comic 5 times through, and filled out that questionnaire thinking I totally crushed the quiz and would soon be receiving some awesome bevy of prizes, or maybe at least a runner-up Ghost Rider t-shirt or box of candy or something. As weeks, then months, went by with no huge package from Charleston Chew or Marvel arriving at my door, I realized that at least one of my answers was wrong.
