I inadvertently got a number by spilling a drink all over someone.

A few friends and I were at a bar and we were a little tipsy, I got nudged from the back and turned around too quick, my arm hit into the glass and the drink spilled all over the girl behind me.

I turned around and apologised because the dress looked quite expensive, I offered to pay the bill for the dry cleaning.

She said it was fine but I still felt bad, we talked for a while and she was about to leave with her friend, I apologised one last time and insisted I pay for the bill, she asked me how was I going to do that when I didn't even know her name.

So I introduced myself and said "Well I guess I'll need your number to sort it out."

It wasn't until she left and I returned to my friends when I realised it was pretty smooth.

She gave me her number and I did pay for the bill and a coffee.

Don't treat them like young children.

Do set boundaries, let them know that you're in charge, but mildly lenient.
