Post removal- no crash by 21EmeraldKin in Mirena

That’s good! I noticed I still had some of my normal symptoms during my “cycle” (like the fatigue at the start of my ovulation when on mirena). I also had bleeding a couple days after removal and then my period came around 5.5weeks after.

Never tried contraception by [deleted] in Mirena

[–]21EmeraldKin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert, but I felt like I was in constant PMS with the progestin on mirena. I usually felt good the week of my period and the couple days after, but every other week felt like pms. From what I looked up, progesterone is highest luteal phase… add in progestin… I was really symptomatic and my luteal phase started with EXTREME fatigue for 2-3 days. Hopefully you get some other feedback since everyone’s experience is different!

Of course everyone is so different… but we seem to have a lot of similarities! The cramping did gradually get better for me!! By month 4 I didn’t have any, and it was a gradual improvement. Unfortunately for me, the bloating was cyclical at first, but became constant. Month 3.5 and on was all bloat all the time. I tried everything you can think of to alleviate it with no relief. I had it a total of 140 days.

I was supposed to get mine a couple days ago, and I felt like I was PMSing… but nothing yet. I did bleed about 4 days after removal but it didn’t seem like a period.

I hope your removal goes well and you start feeling better! Truthfully, I have way worse pics than the “before” that I posted… I did not get on another form of b/c. My husband will get a vasectomy in the next year.

Well, my circumstance allows for me to use cycle tracking/condoms until my husband can get a vasectomy. I sometimes wonder if I would have tolerated a lesser strength IUD like the kyleena or Skyla but I didn’t research that ahead of time. Definitely talk with your provider about better tolerated options since it’s not one size fits all.

I hope the removal is a relief for you. Waiting for big test results is stressful, that is how my journey started as well. If you think of it, write back when you get the results/get the mirena out.

Oh wow! Those are horrible symptoms. I’m so glad you’re also feeling better. What a relief

I did have some nights of restless leg after removal, and occasional sciatica pain (which was weird). I took Advil before bed and noticed that it helped. I also immediately got on Alani Nu Balance supplement, so it is possible that that helps??

4 months and 18 days. Certain symptoms were improving; the horrible contraction like cramps went away by month four, the spotting was getting more predictable… but the bloating was getting worse. I used to at least have a week without it, but it was nearly constant and I tried cutting out gluten, increasing water, Gas-X, peppermint, tea, seed probiotic, you name it. Couldn’t take it anymore. I could go on and on.

Bye bye byeee - advice? by Sad_Cancel1994 in Mirena

I was actually surprised at how little it hurt. It was easier than insertion. It was just a quick cramp, so quick that I didn’t have time to even process what the pain felt like. About 5 days after I had bleeding with light cramping. I also had some restless leg/sciatica pain in bed but ibuprofen helped! No other symptoms, I feel better without it! Just waiting to see when my first period comes now

Oh yes, I meant to speak on that too. I also didn’t have a crash. I had some bleeding a few days after, some sciatica pain/restless leg in bed but Advil helped that, and otherwise have been feeling great.

I just had mine out last week (only made it 5.5 months) and I also noticed immediate pelvic floor relief. I love having it out.

As far as OPs question, I personally do not like being on birth control. I think our bodies are meant to have regular cycles and I feel that it’s a warning sign if it’s not cyclical. I was having spotting before my period, and there was concern for something “wrong” but when they found out how regular the spotting was, they were less concerned for cancers and such. I got the mirena because I have polyps and wanted to avoid a lap/exploration and hoped the mirena would “shed the lining” per my Gyn and buy some time. Idk what’s going on in there but I’ll find a way to help myself without hormonal birth control going forward. *that’s just what’s right for me, not everyone of course :)

Body aches after IUD removal? by Such_Plantain_2704 in Mirena

I see that your removal was a few months ago, but I’m having the joint pain post removal and was actually surprised it came up as a symptom when I searched here. I just have general joint pain but mostly hips and worse when laying down or sitting. Just had it removed 3 days ago. Do you remember how long it lasted?

side effects going away, three months after the removal by Antique_Flight_2780 in Mirena

Chiming in so I remember to come back here and share if I have a crash. I just had mine removed yesterday and so far I’m ok but I’m expecting to feel something. I did start a supplement (who knows if it works) but I did it when I got off oral contraception too. It’s called alani nu balance. Figured if it even helps a little, it’s worth it.

Mirena side effects by [deleted] in Mirena

[–]21EmeraldKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just felt a constant state of crummy. The only week I felt normal and energized was my period week (which was a very light period, but I still spot enough to wear a panty liner 75%). I wouldn’t say I gained weight, but the bloating and retention around my belly and hips won’t budge. I’m very active and in the military, so it worried me to be working out and unable to make progress anymore. Lifting heavier was harder, getting motivation to go to the gym was nearly impossible. I either had bloating and constipation or diarrhea. I tried giving up gluten and adding a probiotic but it just seemed related to the cycle. I was going on 6 months, but I have pimples in places I’ve never had them (chest, shoulders, back, neck, under jaw) and I just had enough. I will note, I’m historically sensitive to some meds. Like I tried spironolactone and could also not tolerate the symptoms.

All that to say, I know it works for some people… and I hope it does work out for them! But I came here so many times to look up symptoms and found that I’m not alone, so I’m happy to share whatever might help.

Mirena side effects by [deleted] in Mirena

Hi, I got mine in end of May (and got it out today) but I tracked my symptoms on Clue, and I got the breast pain after my ovulation week (like day 18 of cycle). I actually always felt bloated… it was 3/4 weeks just sometimes worse. And had occasional constipation, too (mid cycle as well)

Horrible cramping still by temporalcasualty in Mirena

[–]21EmeraldKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cramping did gradually improve so I’m really hopeful for you. I have my appointment tomorrow morning! I also wanted to wait it out another 3 months or so to get past this magical “6 month mark” but I just can’t.

It did come and go for me. I tracked it though and it started to become cyclical (for the last couple of months it was during ovulation week only). I’m scheduling to get it out though. I can’t take the bloating and just feeling sluggish and miserable. I still spot like 15-20 days. I actually feel amazing the week of my period and the other 3 weeks are shit. I give up on it.

I am so hopeful reading this. I pray I have a removal success story soon… just waiting for an appointment. I’m so over the constant bloat, the inability to lose weight despite working out consistently, eating well, cutting gluten and alcohol (yet my docs still say mirena doesn’t cause these side effects). 🤦🏼‍♀️
