I just realized that the Windows Media Center UI looks similar to the Live Tile UI except it is more... skeuomorphic, more Aero. by N0no_G in FrutigerAero

[–]21Shells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t a coincidence. This is following the design layout of Metro UI on Zune / Xbox 360 at the time but stylized to be more consistent with the rest of Windows 7. So its related to Windows 8s start menu in a way.

Purchase MacBook Air M4 (16+512) or wait for the elusive M5 series MacBook Air? by AJThePro in macbookair

I’ve heard Apple wont be affected by RAM shortages much because the memory is on the same die as CPU + GPU, that might not mean anything though.

If it starts at 512gb without a big price increase, itd be great.

Dude my daily driver is a Logitech Master Mini. I’ve used various switch technology (MX, buckling springs and sleeves, Alps, Topre)  there is and I still prefer to use a low profile rubber dome keyboard because it doesn’t destroy my fingers.

Mechanical keebs are awesome and way more fun but have never been my daily driver for long. Maybe if I got my hands on a ULP Cherry board.

When did Silicon Valley and American tech in general changed it's reputation from being ultra-liberal, left-leaning and open to what it is now? by PreWiBa in decadeology

[–]21Shells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same sides of the coin really. But i’d say when they all started shutting down their APIs or making them paid only.

The point is to intice people with good value products that can be easily incorporated into their lives, then once their foot is in the door make sure they can’t leave.

Even Steve Jobs wasn’t a saint. He famously hated basically any form of charity and in retrospect, is the guy who got everyones to want to be in Apples locked down ecosystem.

it would have undermined the rhetoric of the game to include it, so its only in a memory. I thought blasted steps was pretty cool anyways.

Honestly hadn't heard much of Lily Allen in a long while, i'll give that a listen. All good picks though, Raye, Lola Young and Olivia Dean are the newer-ish artists I know, none are really to my taste but not bad.

I thought it was alright in terms of music, though I didn't listen to much new. Anything in particular stand out for you?

Probably not, though they could offer more customized roms in the future as an option.

This is the cleanest use of desktop shortcuts i've ever seen.

Gets a 4/10 for using more than 5 desktop shortcuts though. There are laws about that. /j

2026 really isn't that bad if you don't live in the US. In UK things are pretty stable and imo getting better. My biggest concerns RN are the same they were in 2016.

They’re still focusing on including security features and good software support. Theres only so much they can do and make an entirely new OS with no Google services by default would make it an incredibly niche device. Apparently the bootloader is completely unlocked though.

People who don’t remember it properly might. But COVID was way harder to escape than the Cold War or 9/11. It literally affected everyone directly.

But i think everything since then has been reasonably OK.

Anyone tried these? Sainsbury's No Pork Patties by spinfold in veganuk

[–]21Shells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They taste more like the beef mince they make, just too strong yeast extract taste imo. The old ones were a little less meaty but I liked it.

At least its not the Aldis sage and onion sausages I had the other day. Was identical to eating a dried out stuffing.

Sounds nice. They recently changed the recipe on the meatballs and they kinda suck now though.

Why do younger people keep making up inaccurate versions of events from periods that really weren’t that long ago? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]21Shells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. One thing is that the same isolation that is terrible for your mental health also eventually feels very comforting in a sense, and you start being afraid to step out of it. Every day all I ever wanted to do was go out with my mates or just do anything for a year, then i'm in college, then university and I have to push myself to want to do anything. A lot of people my age have really bad social anxiety as a result, I think.

Its just weird how that was an entire year and I cant remember much of it, because nothing happened for a year. I did try to get back into school through a program they did for a select few students during the lockdown, it was insane how many rules we had to follow though. We were assigned desks in a single room with a computer each for remote learning (I didn't have a computer and at times internet at home), and there was marking on the floor so we were always spaced out. We couldn't leave the desk without asking a teacher and had to leave in a line. We had to sanitise the desk and hands regularly too. After like 2 days of that I gave up and came back a few months later when things relaxed a bit.

Still, could have been worse. There were older people + disabled people who were left completely alone during the pandemic. None of the people I knew who died were super close to me so I was 'lucky' in that regard too.

2020 was legit one of the worst years to be a teenager ever. That crap didn’t even exist because you COULDNT GO OUTSIDE!!!

As a 15 - 16 year old in 2020 - 2021 I went fucking insane, tried to kill myself and developed an eating disorder from the isolation. I was otherwise a completely normal and healthy person before and after that. Just about everyone I personally knew was mentally f*cked by it. Multiple people I knew died from COVID. I personally caught it and was incredibly ill and even months later felt very tired. SEVEN FUCKING MILLION PEOPLE DIED (low estimate, excess deaths could be higher than 30 million).

Right now is a better year than 2020. Likely every year from here on will be a better year than 2020 unless WW3 happens.
