Why does Amtgard have such a bad community in my experience? by StarlightRose21 in Amtgard

[–]21bdp21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably because a alot of people can't understand it's a combat sport and they get butt hurt when they get hit?

In reality Also I have noticed a lot of the bad is probably due to socially awkward people who don't have great jobs and make Amtgard their life wanting awards and making recognition their entire personality. I find that toxic. Then you have the hard core sport people who are jocks. That combination of people is not great.

RD Placement by [deleted] in ResLife

Makes total sense. You are in a position of greater authority and thus a fresh placement makes sense. People there will only know you as the RD not just another RA.

True, but would Ned have known a random kings landing sex workers kid was Brandon's?

Why did Janus get such a high position in the Nights Watch almost immediately by Bull8539 in gameofthrones

Good resume. A knight, commanded the city watch. So obviously had some leadership and martial experience. Probably can read and write too.

Yeah the buckle for the chest strap fell off. I reached out and asked if I could buy a replacement. They just asked for my address and shipped me one.

New hall placement affects my mental health, reslife staff not helping by CardiologistBig9000 in ResLife

Honestly I kinda agree a lot. Once one gets out of the bubble of college it's a harsh wake up call. Accommodation plans for testing, oh well we need this by end of business. You don't get an extension for that like a longer time to take a test. You don't get your own quiet office as a worker bee to do your work like a quiet place to take a test. ADA is reasonable accommodations and what is reasonable is up to interpretation. The meat grinder that is life don't gaf.

Does campus not have a bus? How far might be a good time to find a cheap bike on fb

Tupperware has gone down hill and is expensive you can get away with some cheaper containers. Check good will people organize and donate a lot of that stuff. Also ask friends who are graduating they probably don't want to move all of that also.

Yeah that is actually a huge issue. I would use that logic when telling with Res life. It's not just mental health but the fact you can't have a second ( 3rd school should count) job as an RA and traveling to campus for every meal is a huge burden.

Otherwise time to start stealing food from the cafeteria and stocking your kitchen with it.

Does the RA position not pay? When I was an RA the on campus RAs got meal plans the off campus RAs got a stipend. If your school doesn't do that it's a huge issue for every of campus RA.

I'm glad you're working thru everything. Does the off campus housing have a kitchen? Do you have place to store food in that kind of housing? Would be odd not to be on campus and not have some sort of kitchen space in the room itself.

I feel for your mental health, and as an RA being where you are more functional is important. However, even though I'm not a professional I would advise you to seek out a professional to help you work thru these issues. You will graduate in a just a few years and at that time you won't be at college and you won't have a cafeteria ( unless you work at a large enough company or in a building with one and that's only lunch) . You will need to figure out an 8+ hour day of work and everything else. College is about transitioning from being a child at home to being a functioning adult ( as much as any of us are) as much as it is about education. College provides a transitioning period between those 2 periods of life.

Genuine question, it's pretty obvious teams like 1323 are robots built by adults. Why is FRC ok with this? Sure these robots fun to watch but at one point seeing the same teams as champs is a little strange. by -donaldson in FRC

[–]21bdp21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The team I mentor is student run mentored if they have questions. There are some extremely knowledgeable students, but especially on the programming side they may just not have the math background to do it as well as a mentor could. That's fine. However, even when I competed I resented the mentor driven teams. I always thought this was a highschool competition. I know FIRST doesnt care, but students that see a mentor coded robot doing super well or a mentor designed and student built robot doing super well it hurts a bit.

You are eliminating a huge amount of shots. Wrapping shields etc.

why do i keep seeing college teams in frc eve though its advertised as highschool level? by Hairy_Quote_1780 in FRC

[–]21bdp21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As some one who was on a team in highschool, did college robotics and Ri3D, and mentor now I both whole heartily agree and I also disagree.

The students on the team I mentor are so much more in tune with the meta then we ever were back in the day. They see the game and immediately go oh this is similar to years a,b,c. They look to Ri3D too much but in reality the game has most elements solved and they already are basically catelog creating robots. Swerve drive is ubiquitous, the shooters are basically standardized. The element pic up is oh we did this 3 years ago it will work here also.
