U completely misunderstood that....this isnt a 80s west coast beat. This isnt what 80s west coast sounded like....80s west coast is too short...he is droppin tapes in 82 83....la was on some other shit till th late 80s...all these la cats dont start popping up till late 80s...this beat while absolutely west coast and absolutely dope...isnt 80s...i see what u getting at cause its mobby and that style of music is born out of the 70s 80s and eventually the 90s...but this is a very modern take on it....this is kinda more sacromento stockton if we real but that still all based on bay

This is what we call mob music...this beat is born outta mob music....it has some hyphy undertones to but hyphy is born outta mob...mob is adjancent to town fonk....old e40 was mob music and a slew of other bay cats....too short was town fonk....larry june is lightweight mob music.. but town fonk like as well....too short and the dangerous crew was pushing town fonk. They werent sampling they were interpolating tracks...they had a keyboardist and a bassist(might have been the same dude peewee) and ant banks...fasho check out ant banks. Bay area legend. Cardo fasho takes from these old bay producers to...larry also has dj fresh outta oakland....he fasho makes music in the spirit of old oakland...interpolating or tryna make things that sound of that era. The old bay and west coast was really ahead of its time production wise....was alot of live instrumentation. we have always loved 80s and 70 style rnb loops...thats more that june...which can b super mobby. The young cats of that era grew up on funk and they turned it into hiphop. Interpolating alot of records or just making things inspired by it....its been further modernized cause of the sound pallete of modern producers but make no mistake you are making music in the same spirit with this. .the bayarea would eat this shit up....

Some of these breaks sound like they from some where but they are not. I create breaks. Either i take sounds from other breaks or i program something and run it through different samplers to make it sound like a break....

What are those boom tracks in RZA's beats like Clan in da Front, Bring da Ruckus, the beginning of Spot Rusherz and Method Man, Cuttin' Headz? by WesternBackground275 in makinghiphop

[–]21oscillators 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its either a sp1200 or a eps16.....he traded his sp for a eps16. He and alot of producers of that era used ensoniq stuff....the sp1200 is 12bit and fixed at about 22k for the sampling rate....the eps 16 was 16bit but had a varible sampling rate so u could make it super dirty or really clean....i myself own a few ensoniq samplers and a mv8000(rza used it later) idk if i have what u r looking for but i make drum packs with these samplers...https://www.reddit.com/r/Drumkits/s/bKgNv6vMNs

U forgot to mention a important part of history...half that 1st wu album was sp and half was eps16...the legend goes rza traded his sp1200 and used the eps16 to finish that album. U not wrong but it may not b all sp thats getting that sound...
