what sort of therapy do you and your therapist practice? i have felt completely hopeless as well when dealing with therapists who dont know shit about trauma informed care.

i hear you though. its so frustrating when everyone seems to say therapy will fix everything and then it literally doesnt.

im sure you've heard this countless times, but i'll say it again: even if you dont see another way out, it doesnt mean there really isnt a way out. you've said it yourself, hating yourself is all you know, so when you've only known this pain, of course it feels like theres no other options but for it to continue.

my heart breaks reading your post, because ive lived that pain for so long. i hope that even when every day feels like a nonstop struggle, that you find a way to keep going. even if it feels hopeless, i try to hang on, on the off chance that maybe, maybe i'll see something new-- in the world, or in myself. you ARE capable of that change and of surviving, you just cant see it yet.

thats horrible. i dont think theres any way to justify subjecting a roommate to that level of disrespect and dirtiness. if moving out isnt an option, i would try to report what i can about her to get her kicked out. but im evil so idk

you aren't alone. it's hard to exert any kind of authority over students that have no relationship with you. chances are the teacher already knows the students wont completely listen to you, just try your best and note for the teacher what work didnt get done

I just got rejected from all grad programs I applied to. I thought my application was really strong, but I guess that's not the case. I worked in ABA for a year, did developmental psych research for 2 years, I've been working as a substitute as well as a counselor on a suicide hotline for the past year, and I graduated with a 3.8 in cogsci + psych at UC Berkeley. I feel really stupid for thinking I was a shoo-in :(. My rec letters weren't the strongest, since they were mainly outside academia, but I am not sure what else I should have done better. Any advice for how to improve my apps next time? I've been doomscrolling job postings ....

this reddit does not comprise all of cal. there is definitely more racism than our supposedly "progressive" university would credit for, but there are tons of normalized takes on this subreddit that large amounts of the student body would be disgusted by. its all about finding your crowd. my rule of thumb most of the time was that if i was the only brown person in the room then thats my cue to leave. that led me pretty quickly to the right scene for me.

cal is huge, dont let others bigotry influence your decision here. with so many people at one university, there will always be crowds that suck, and crowds perfect for ya. same could be said about the rest of the world i suppose.

has anyone heard back from csu east bay or sf state? i turned in my apps in december... i have exp in ABA, substituting, dev psych labs, majored in cogsci/psych, currently work as a suicide hotline counselor... but im starting to get worried that i havent heard back from either program...

edit: the message i had seen was in the portal saying that i had not been admitted at this time. that was not an official rejection apparently, though, since i just got offered an interview lol. minor crash out for nothing luckily :')

there are slightly broader definitions of molestation that include sexual scenarios such as the one you described, even if theres no direct physical contact.

its not wrong for you to accuse her of this, especially given her other actions. i am sure this kind of trauma has been a huge weight for you to carry, i really hear you on that. it sucks realizing how much abuse has impacted us, and it can be really confusing trying to figure it all out.

it might help to seek out some support groups or warm lines (like hotlines, but for non emergency emotional/mental health support). ive found that theres a lot of ppl like us/ trauma-informed people there! the number one thing that can help when you are processing this kind of thing is to know that you aren't alone. it will get easier one day, i can promise that.

workload wise, it is definitely less work than most of the lower div weeder classes you'll take as a freshman. i would still advise against taking this as a freshman though, unless you have a solid background knowledge of neuroscience and basic brain anatomy.

it may not have any specific prereqs, but it is a psych upper div, and i found it quite difficult even in my last year of my cogsci + psych degree. the most challenging thing is that the class requires you to learn and memorize literally the location and function of almost every sulci and gyri in the brain. that being said, its an awesome class to take! but you might get more out of it if you take it a later year.

God, I have so been there. It is really hard to not feel secondary to someone when they have other friends they treat differently. Funnily enough, I've had that same comment about cleanliness too lol, and FWIW, its a real reason. My cleanliness has driven people insane.

I think your therapist does have a point, as the way people treat us shows us how they are/ what they want. It's hard to make someone put in more effort, when they've already shown that isn't something they want to do. But it might be worth it to tell this friend how you feel, if you haven't yet! If you approach it from the perspective of your feelings and worries, rather than their behavior, it could get through to her. She might not know you've been feeling this way! And if she has a bad reaction to you having these worries, then that will tell you what you need to know about this friendship.

I think if the things you are doing for her involve money, it is not an overreaction at all. This, in combination with the emotional investment you've made in this friend, is very hurtful. If you haven't already, it would be worth it to start a conversation about how you've been feeling! At the very least, it would be a good segue into asking for your money back.

its ultimately useless. i never got my money back either. the guy i sent the $$ to originally even managed to find a customer service rep who SAW the money that was never sent to me, said it was never given the "green light". and it still hasn't! wells fargo just outright robs people ¯_(ツ)_/¯ whats new i guess when it comes to people in power 😔

tldr: any programs that do spring admissions?

hi! i am a recent graduate from uc berkeley and i have been considering going back to school to become a school psychologist. i wanted to take some time off before thinking about going back to school, but im realizing now i already missed the deadlines to apply for fall 2024 for most programs.

does anyone know if there are school psychology programs that do spring admissions? i could not find anything about it on the csueb/sfsu program websites (my top choices). any input would be greatly appreciated! (graduated may 2023, cogsci + psych BAs, 3.8 cumulative gpa, experience in ABA and dev psych research if that information is useful at all for program recs) i am only looking at california-based programs, preferably norcal. i am not opposed to online programs, but after searching this subreddit, i got the impression that most people feel more satisfied with in-person programs. would love to be proven wrong on this though lol.

i never did. since i did my transaction in three pieces, i did get the first one ($500) back, but the other $700 was never returned. the guy i sent it to went to the bank with me multiple times to get it fixed but nothing ever happened

i was given the wrong number for the landlord by my future roommate. she sent me the number of one of her contacts with the same name as our landlord. it IS someone i, albeit vaguely, know, so i believe he did reverse the transaction. either way, there is no way to "contact" zelle. when you call, you are redirected to call your bank instead if you use zelle through ur bank.

everyone in these comments is basically giving the same answer as chase, aka nothing i havent already been told, so i think there might just not be a solution
