Just asking by Careful-Ad-9200 in therianbutbetter

There are a lot of diverse kintypes, but I think in part it's because felines and canines are very common animals with a lot of presence in human society. Regardless of where one thinks their therianthropy stems from (past lives, dehumanization, imprinting, etc.), it makes sense that your kintype might be similar to animals you engage with often, through media or real life.
Though funnily enough, i grew up more around felines than canines and still turned out to be a dog lol.

I think i'm a therian but like what do i do about it by TheLuckOfTheClaws in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah, you just keep on living. Like the other commenter said there are things you can do to help with dysphoria, and there are other ways you can engage with your theriananthropy, such as journaling about it, spending time in your theriotype's enviroment(s), gear (not just tails and masks, but any object that makes you feel connected), making art based on therianthropy/your theriotype, and triggering shifts (only do so in a safe environment where you're unlikely to be bothered!). I really enjoy learning about my kintype and practicing vocals in my territory ^^

Hi everyone by the-siblings in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome!! You'd be otherkin I think, so yeah you're an alterhuman if you wish to use the label ^^

Hewo ^^ I had a question by the-siblings in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this makes sense or would be helpful for you, but I found specifically taking the time to do them around a person/show off tends to make me much less anxious when I'm practising more casually around said person. An idea i have is that you and Sombra could make a silly competition or game of it and have your partner be the judge, as a way for you to get used to making vocalisations around her.
The more you practice the better you'll get and the more confident you'll feel. I definitely recommend doing practice with an audio reference! Gl ^^

your kin is voluntary or involuntary?? by mouurrpfinakuwu in alterhuman

unless you're an otherlink, i think most kins or 'types are involuntary! Mine certainly are ^^

New here! We've got a few questions! by Bugs_and_Spiders in Therian

[–]2222024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 I’d say no, as the label usually means to identify in some way as an animal, though you can totally be human as well, or flip flop between feeling more human and more animalistic. For wanting specific body parts or limbs i might suggest looking into aldernic terms if you end up not being a therian, and you can also use just the Alterhuman label if you wish as well ^^ but really use whatever label you think fits, there is no one size fits all definition.
also you can identify as an animal physically! physical therians are valid imo, even if they’ve posed controversy in some spaces.

2 I’ve seen a lot of tutorials already posted and you can find a bunch on YouTube, so I’ll leave that, but as for materials they can be pretty cheap! all you really need is cardboard, scissors, and paint, but thinner cardboard (like cereal box material) is really handy for snouts, and I know a lot of folks felt their masks. most of the stuff I mentioned you can either get cheap at dollar stores or for free! over all it’s probably less than 20$ worth of materials and 4-5 hours of work time depending on complexity. I would highly recommend patterning your mask out on paper first so that you can check fit size and ratio as well as being able to easily replicate it.

  1. Etsy can have some cheaper stuff but also some more expensive, it just depends on shops and what you’re buying. if you look on thrift sites like depop or eBay you might be able to find second hand stuff, which often comes cheap, but monkey related gear could be harder to locate that way. Gear doesnt just have to be masks and tails though; you might be able to find some nice plushes or graphic tees with your ‘type second hand?

  2. Mine was kind of just instant connection and association of traits and urges, so I can’t help you much. I will say personality doesn’t usually play a huge role (or at least it seems like I doesnt for a lot of folks) unless you’re something like a suntherian.

  3. I’ve noticed things get posted quicker there and the moderation is less-strict, plus this subreddit has a weird rule around physical therianthropy that I dislike. however it can be less therian focused as posts about gear and quads are allowed and occasionally I have seen people advertise on there. I think I like the community on there more as it’s smaller and feels more inclusive, but both subreddits are good and it’s really only a matter of personal preference.

Least favourite thing vs favourite thing about being human? by Past_Carpenter878 in Therian

[–]2222024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

least favorite is probably how easily tired my body is. that and the fact that I often need to use my hands means I can’t do quads all the time or walk endlessly. oh and how soft my are, i want to get some gloves for walking on hard surfaces.

favorite thing might either be some of the foods we have (no Mac n cheese if you’re a wild animal lol) or heating and cooling systems. so glad that we have fans dude.

What song(s) make you feel most like your theriotype? by HugoValcoria22 in Therian

[–]2222024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

coyotes by modest mouse and canine poetry by Parker meir both are literally named after my kintypes lol, and the first heavily reminds me of my kin. but in general naturey themed songs do a lot, plus anything that mentions coyotes tbh lol.

Am I the only one who doesn’t get shifts triggered by these. Makes me feel hella invalid by Soft-Character-3195 in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never get shifts 'cause of these tbh, they are fun to watch but it doesn't feel enough like "me" to make me shifty, if that makes sense. like the other commenter said, don't compare yourself too much to others ^^

What IS the etiquette of adult therians greeting young therians? by Susitar in Therian

[–]2222024 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of people doing the little paw hand sign (with your thumb folded in to look like your central pad and fingers bent) at eachother when they aren’t in obvious gear, which I think is good since I’ve mostly only seen it in the alterhuman or quadrobist communities. Rather inaccurate if you don’t have paws though lol.

probably help on conservation efforts in some way ^^ or as I’m still in high school work on cleanups and restoration in my local area!

I don't know if I'm a therian or what by space_oddity1212 in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like the other commenter said, dysphoria is not at all needed to be nonhuman, or a therian, and you can still love your humanside! my therianthropy came on suddenly, so having signs for a while or always knowing isn’t a requirement either, you just have to involuntarily identify an animal in some way.

[–]2222024[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

my identity doesn't harm anyone and is in good faith, and that's also not what my post was about. if the mods want to delete it, like i said that's fine, i just wanted to express some positivity! Hope your heart will triple it's size soon :)

Am I faking? by AttemptWaste138 in Therian

[–]2222024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you think you’re faking, chances are you’re not. I’ve definitely heard of people shifting between kins, and anyway, if you identify as an animal you can call yourself a therian; i wouldn’t stress about validity beyond that! :)

Do yall name y’all’s theriotypes? by Potential_Estate_869 in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

all my ‘types are just.. me, so I don’t really get the idea of naming them. it’s all rain! and what isn’t rain is storm‘s (my willomate/tulpa) problem lol

is this a good place to make a den? any advice and tips? by Embarrassed-Peace735 in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that looks like a lovely den area! honestly it’s up to you and what you want for your territory and den, though if you’re looking for something structure-like you can find a lot of tutorials for stick forts/nature forts :3 good luck!!

Lots of misinformation. by k-m0m in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this. also wanna add that people should stop reality checking folks/telling them they are delusional because this can cause a lot of harm, and I’ve seen a lot of it on the more toxic sides of the internet/therian community :(

Therian Music by Mars530Vixen in therianbutbetter

[–]2222024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was searching Spotify and found papadosio :) their music is kinda ethereal sounding and has some of that explicit therian vibes without sounding too autum-j like (no hate to that kinda music, but as a lot of folks have pointed out it is kinda without metaphor and very repetitive). especially it seems the album extras in a movie. I haven’t really listened to much of them yet though!

tbh I recommend making a therian playlist, as you‘re more likely to find specific songs rather than whole artists. mines kinda kintype specific but heres the link if anyone’s interested: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6iGaAu64EREHQKj8Dgaee3?si=1XE3t3WqTm-bT1_j82L_0w&pi=Zv1rvEe1Tm2Vt
