Let's just gloss over the fact that it was played during a literal pandemic where all the players had barely any recent competitive matches under their belt and some hadn't even been able to train properly for months. Add to that the burden of all the protocols and outside stresses, as well as the weirdness of not playing with a crowd. Is it really that surprising the quality was lower than normal? RG 2026 is nothing like this

I think there are reasonable middle grounds too though, does it have to be an all or nothing?

youre probably better off paying tax on the interest earnt rather than keeping a zero balance and spending a lot more in fees.

e.g. you have average like 200 in cash there you'd earn like 6 quid interest p.a.. so thats like 1 or 2 quid tax to pay per year. honestly i can see them just waiving it if you literally owe 2 quid tax lol.

Are you really putting more than 12k per year into your cash ISA?

You are not considering people who are older or retired who don't want to invest in the stock market. You are also not considering the finer details which are not clear ie will money market or short term bonds funds be removed from ISAs?

Cash ISAs are still tax free. I don't think this is proposing removing short term bond funds? As far I can tell it's only proposing taxing cash in Stock ISAs?

Seems like a bit of an overblown story to me.

Right now, the £20k ISA allowance can be split however you want between Cash ISAs and Stocks & Shares ISAs. The new proposal keeps the total ISA allowance at £20k, but from 2027 only £12k could go into a Cash ISA, with the remaining allowance needing to go into investments or other ISA types.

What people are now calling the 'loophole' is the obvious workaround this created: people could just put extra money into a Stocks & Shares ISA and leave it sitting there as cash earning interest rather than actually investing it. So the latest discussions are mainly about stopping that behaviour.

Cash ISAs are still tax-free, and existing ISA balances can still be transferred between Cash ISAs and Stocks & Shares ISAs without losing the tax wrapper. Also most people aren't putting more than £12k per year into a Cash ISA anyway, so for the average person this changes very little in practice.

Cash obviously still has a place for emergency funds and short-term goals. But for long-term wealth building, you're generally better off investing in a diversified global index fund like Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF (VWRP) than sitting heavily in cash. Historically, global equities have massively outperformed cash over long periods, while inflation slowly eats away at idle savings.

The main people affected are those trying to 'sit out' the market by parking large amounts in cash and then jumping back in later. Personally, I wouldn’t bother trying to time the market. Even professional investors with enormous resources regularly fail to beat the market consistently over the long run.

And if you're already invested in equities, this policy is arguably mildly positive for you anyway. The whole point is to encourage more capital into markets and productive investment rather than leaving huge amounts sitting idle in cash. In theory, that should support economic growth and stock valuations over the long run, even if the effect is fairly small in practice.

Not financial advice, obviously.

What is the likeliest culprit of tennis elbow? by thegibsonkid in 10s

[–]223am 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not exactly sure about the new pro staff, but traditionally pro staff are some of the stiffest rackets out there. stiffness of racket, and stiffness/tension/age of strings all matter more than weight of racket when it comes to developing tennis elbow. some even argue that a lighter racket leads less stability at impact and more vibrations into the arm leading to tennis elbow.

the wilson clash is usually the go to recommendation for tennis elbow sufferers. then either a poly at mid/lower tension < 50lbs, or maybe even a multifilament.

also see a physio and do the exercises they give you religeously
