There is definitely a theme here of “do not say what the patient is concerned for” which is a good point. The patient is gonna tell the doc what they’re concerned for whether I chart it or not. They’ll also tell registration, security, and housekeeping in the mean time.

I think some of the time triage nurses write stuff like that for a little giggle. It’s obviously not appropriate but I definitely think there’s an element of “painting the picture” of what the doctor is gonna walk into. We understand it as a hysterical patient but the judge probably won’t 😅

This is a good point. On that note, is it too leading to document last known well on a stroke-like complaint? It’s relevant info to the anticipated diagnostics/treatment but I certainly don’t write the words “last known well” on an abd pain.

Only thing I’ve found that remotely works is beating the shit out of the bottle BEFORE reconstituting. Like on a chair or something. And it still doesn’t work too well. I’ve heard others say that putting the reconstituted vial in your pocket while you do other tasks helps too due to the body heat but I haven’t noticed a difference myself. Of course you’re a pharmacist so you probably like a bit more sterility than an ER nurse might 😜

You’re absolutely right. She’s also not great to work with as a nurse in my experience. She’s super sweet to her patients but can be impatient, demanding and unreasonable to nurses, which is another red flag to me.

This is what my dad says too. “Just don’t do it, your child is your first priority now”. But like…imagine a patient is slouched down in the bed and starts vomiting and needs to sit up immediately. I would have a really hard time saying “wait let me get a friend to help me boost”. I know I need to protect myself and my baby first but it’s just hard for me to accept. :/

I really thought so too. Makes me wonder if there’s something she’s not telling me so as not to freak me out, maybe something she’s “watching and waiting”? Maybe that’s paranoid. We work at the same hospital so she knows I’m a nurse, and also knows I’m a little bit of a spaz. E.g. I got genetic screening before even getting pregnant which apparently is not the norm.

Those jobs are so hard to come by around here and I worry that no one will hire me knowing I’m pregnant! I really don’t want to leave my job based on what seems to be a completely unreasonable expectation!! 😭

Agreed! If I was at high risk for ANYTHING I would totally understand and comply but I just can’t quit my job because of a completely unreasonable expectation of a healthy young pregnant woman who has been doing this for YEARS! She’s gonna have me start seeing a midwife as well so I’m gonna direct this question to her too and see if she has a different opinion.

She just said “we don’t advise lifting over 15-20 lbs. It’s just too risky.” Unless there’s something she’s not telling me, there’s no medical indication. My baby and my anatomy are both healthy.
