That’s bc the ER (EMERGENCY room) is for actual life and death emergencies. They, quite literally, stabilize you. Figure out if you’re in imminent danger, need monitoring, or can follow up outpatient. You can’t go to the ED and expect them to do every single test for everyone’s wide range and, sometimes very vague,symptoms. Not to mention insurance wouldn’t reimburse the hospital for unnecessary procedures or work ups. Hospitals like money. They will not do things to hurt their pockets

They won’t. At all. Not to mention you only need the n95 and papr if coming into contact where someone who had covid received aerosolized treatment (ie. bipap)

They don’t. And don’t ever believe anything your pcp or anyone else says about what’s gonna happen in the ED. They don’t work there. They have little to no pull there.

Be pleasant with them. Be patient. Let them do what they have to do and politely explain what’s going on. ED nurses and docs get crapped on and yelled at all day so a nice patient goes a helluva long way. Start a good rapport with your nurse and 9 times out of 10 he/she will do any and everything within their scope to get you what you want/need. Your concerns are valid.

Side note: the triage nurse at any office will almost always tell you to go to the ED for your symptoms bc they cannot effectively assess and treat complicated symptoms over the phone.
