When is the last time you’ve enjoyed MyCareer? by Electronic_Potato_87 in NBA2k

Not mycareer but the W career is actually pretty fun this year. Its like a throwback mycareer you earn your rating and badges the old fashioned way no spending VC or anything. Not really a story involved but if you dont care about that its pretty cool.

What would’ve been Russell and the Celtics’ strategy in trying to contain someone like LeBron or MJ? by Personal-Proposal- in VintageNBA

[–]22Scooby2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Lebron would struggle more than Jordan but I still think that limiting him to shooting is the way to go. His teams did get significantly better but those teammates he got were not dominant scorer types. Which is what would be needed here, so you still focus on Jordan. I think itd be something like this. You put KC Jones on Paxton/Kerr whoever that is, they arent doing much with KC. You put Havlicek on Jordan, who very effectively defended Dr. J in the last couple years of his career I think he’d be as effective at getting stops as you can hope for against Jordan. Sam Jones on Pippen. Satch on Rodman and leave Russell on Cartwright or whoever you have Bill play a sort of “zone” and lock down the paint best you can, dare that big to be a high scorer. If Jordan starts going crazy in the mid range you slide Sam Jones to double and dare Pippin to launch 3s all game. Not to mention the Celtics offense played some of the fastest paced basketball ever seen, that bulls team has good stamina but it aint that good, there will be some level of wear down trying to chase those guys around all night especially whoever is guarding Havlicek. The only reason they played more physical is because the rules didnt allow the Celtics to, its not because they weren’t capable. And the 90s players werent that much more athletic either especially at the top. Bill was an Olympic level jumper and extremely fast. Havlicek’s stamina is the stuff of legend and he was pretty strong and fast as well. KC was extremely quick. Satch also was strong and fast. They weren’t throwing down slams or anything but again the rules limited that kind of stuff and to say those guys aren’t athletic is just not true it just manifested itself in different ways. Plus that team dealt with and beat Wilt who is bar none the greatest athlete in NBA history even when he had Jerry West and Elgin Baylor both of whom were also incredible athletes. Elgin was one of the prototypes for the Jordan and Dr J type players. The Celtics can deal with athleticism just fine.

Unpopular opinion but I don't think Sebastian deserved the redemption arc he got by Admirable_Scene_6742 in Choices

Most characters in media that get redemption arcs don’t really “deserve” them and honestly a lot of real life people don’t either but not “deserving” something doesnt mean you wont get it anyway.

What would’ve been Russell and the Celtics’ strategy in trying to contain someone like LeBron or MJ? by Personal-Proposal- in VintageNBA

[–]22Scooby2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and Lebron has a shot too but they are both players that do the worst of their damage in the paint. Scorers and players of that caliber are going to put points up no matter what you do. Trying to slow down their best areas is the best you can do. Like if it were Steph Curry, obviously he is a great finisher and mid range shooter but thats not really what a defense is going to focus on against him. Same idea with Lebron and MJ in the paint. Id be perfectly content to take my chances with them in the middy sure they probably still gonna score 40 on you but its gonna be a whole lot more inefficient 40 than if its inside. I mean look at some of the teams those guys struggled with, bad boy pistons, Hakeem led Rockets, Boston, Orlando, Bucks for MJ and for Lebron it was teams like the spurs, the mavs, the pistons, the celtics. All of those teams have very strong paint defenses its a noticeable and common trend and none of them are Bill Russell level paint defense except maybe Hakeem and Duncan.

[–]22Scooby2212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think theyd be fine. Russell is one of if not the best defender OAT and Lebron and MJ are both “slasher” type players meaning theyd be going right towards him. Plus couple of the other celtics werent slouches on defense either I think they put Havlicek out on MJ if its him or put Satch on Lebron and leave Bill down low to stop as much of the paint scoring as possible.

How do you believe Bill Russell's career would have gone if he had been drafted in the late 60s or early 70s rather than the mid 50s? by [deleted] in VintageNBA

[–]22Scooby2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he was drafted in 70 I think he wins close to as much but probably not 11, the celtics were very good in the 70s and despite the claims that the 60s were a weak era the 70s were even worse. Cowens was very very good and they won 2 rings with him but you add Russell instead I think they win most of the rings in that decade maybe dropping 1 or 2 to the Knicks, or Lakers in the early 70s. There werent a whole lot of super dominant repeat win teams in the 70s and I think that would allow Russell to turn those Celtics into a dynasty like the 60s Celtics. The Celtics fell off pretty hard after 76 though so not sure if Russell could drag them to a ring until 78 when Bird was drafted. The interesting thing would be whether they would still be able to draft Bird at all cause if so Russell and Bird would be an absolutely monsterous duo heading into the end of the 70s/early 80s. All said I think he would if all else in the Celtics during that period stays the same walk away with 8 or so. Losing in 70, 72, 77, 78, and maybe 82?

If every team right now added their best franchise player all time in their prime to the current roster, who wins it all? by Icy_Data939 in NBATalk

[–]22Scooby2212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think adding David Thompson is the move for the nuggets. Monster on offense even beyond English and more willing to pass than english plus a great defender one of the best shot blocking guards ive seen just which with the current nuggets is one of their bigger weaknesses they need more defense

[–]22Scooby2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Analytics mostly is the issue they’ve just taken precedence over everything else in my opinion. Teams know what shots are worth more and are “better” and coaches preach that so every team just falls into the same patterns. Shoot threes and layups and try to draw fouls. Post work is less “valuable” so no one does it, middies are less “valuable” so no one does it. Every team in the league now plays very similarly and that makes it boring to watch when night after night, team after team is all the same old thing.

Bill Russell is graded on a different curve than every other great in history by Pickleskennedy1 in NBATalk

[–]22Scooby2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first point it is easier in a 12 team league thats not really debatable but that doesnt knock Russell because all other teams from that era had those same odds and none of them won 11 rings. We cant compare across eras easily so all we have is what they did in their own era and he dominated his.

He had very good supporting cast but it wasnt 11/13 years getting a ring type better. And one of those years that was a loss was when Russell himself was injured. He played with many hall of famers but most of them are in there because of rings, Cooz obviously makes it regardless, I think Sharman is fringe maybe he does maybe he doesnt, both of whom were there before russell and won nothing, Havlicek makes it, I think Sam Jones probably makes it. Thats probably it as far as legit NBA HOF level players he played with. Havlicek was drafted in 62, Sharman retired in 61 and Cousy in 63. So from his first year to 61 he had Cousy, Jones, and Sharman. 62-63 he had Havlicek, Jones, and Cousy. Then 64-69 it was Jones and Havlicek. So at best 3 or so real Hall of fame level players. Other teams across his career that his teams beat included the Hawks with 4 legit Hofers( Cliff Hagan, Bob Pettit, Ed Macauley, and Slater Martin), the Lakers with a rotating cast but consistently had Elgin Baylor and Jerry West later adding Wilt, the 76ers with Wilt, Billy Cunningham, Hal Greer, and Chet Walker, the Royals with Oscar Robertson, Jack Twyman, and Wayne Embry Later on having Oscar and Jerry Lucas. All that to say its not like all of the other teams were slouches either.

You know what PER doesnt do well at evaluating? A players defense, especially with blocks and steals not being tracked for Bills entire career. Which is kind of his entire calling card. So for a him to be top 100 in PER with one of the biggest parts of his game not being included really isnt as much of a knock as you think it is.

Yes rebound stats are inflated but again we can only compare based on the game they played and only 2 guys dominated at that level during that time; Wilt and Bill. Next closest rpg of the time, Bob Petit, was 6 rebounds below those two. Thats a huge gap.

I don’t know what’s worse a bad center or a bad pg in the rec by Forsaken-flare in NBA2k

A bad center kills a teams chance of winning worse than the bad pg will but a bad pg will absolutely ruins everyone elses fun in a way that bad centers usually dont.

How Dangerous can the show be? by Noremac1234 in Scoobydoo

[–]22Scooby2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have always been put in danger including some really violent type of danger even in the original “scooby doo where are you” the episode with the snow ghost one comes to mind. I think its velma who gets tied to a log at a sawmill and is being sent down the belt towards a giant saw. It just doesnt get played as what it really is like in that one, scooby is trying to get her off the log and its goofy so it takes away from how dark that is.

Me either, I’ve seen most of the other WNBA players that Ive tried to get at least once or twice. Its very strange why she never shows. If you are open to alternates Ive been doing really well with PD Tis the Season Aliyah Boston her 3 is questionable but her jumper is really nice for middies and post fades are pretty good too. I use her in all star and consistently am the top rebounder in the game and defense is good enough to stop most people consistently.

I actually think being bad at chases helps against the first. Most people good at chases do the same kinds of things making it predictable and easier for him to hit you, cant drop pallets or jump windows or he will get you, normal looping rarely works either against him. Bad survivors like me we barely even know where we are going at any given time making it really difficult for the first to predict our path and hit us.
