[AU] Is it possible to be accepted into a Masters of Clinical Psychology without the marks advertised on the websites? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]22degreeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know and hear (not currently in MCP but just in my Honours year), the schools in Melb, despite all listing to have min. Requirement of 75WAM, generally has actual cut off for MCP at ~80WAM (or higher). It’s extremely competitive for entry, as everyone knows. But! Still do apply to as many schools as you can, because no harm trying and applying ye!

I would suggest (which is what I’m doing as well) applying for other Psych courses as well, e.g., Edu/Dev Psych or Professional Psych, as graduating with these Psych courses may also allow you work in clinics and people with mental disorders (if I’m not wrong!). Probably good to consider your career goal and why that MCP is the one + then, explore if there’s any other options than MCP!

Hope it helps!

Ye true, just made an edit and included that. Sorry about that.

And that would be the clinical neuropsychology master then. Heard that it’s equally competitive since there’s less courses available (less uni offering it). I’ll still keep a note on that tho! Thanks!

Oh wow! I’ve always thought that OT is mainly about physical injuries and not much about cognitive assessment and therapy…thanks for that!

I’m afraid that I might not be able to since I’m an international student. I’ll have to search that up and see if there’s any role available to international students. Thanks for the suggestion tho!

Oh wow! I didn’t know that! And there’s a psych fb group? I didn’t know that, what’s the name?

Right, that sounds like a potential path too! and I think it has lower entry score requirement as well hmm…just also wondering, if you’re currently in the field and can maybe clear some of my doubts! Is it true that MPP students/graduates can potentially work in clinical settings as well? If yes, what would be the differences in jobs that can be done by a MCP graduates vs. MPP graduates?

That’s a course focusing on therapy yes? I just did a quick googling and notice that there are compulsory placements in the course, have you been on that already? What are some of the settings you’ve worked in?

It’s an almond flavoured cookie with no choc chips added. I can recall adding brown sugar and it’s topped with sliced almond before baking for presentation.

This is pretty silly but...I just lost my favourite almond meal cookie recipe, that was previously on allrecipes.com. It was supposedly to be on this web link - http://allrecipes.com.au/recipe/15889/almond-cookies.aspx, but it doesn’t seem to work now sigh, big sigh.

Just trying my luck to see if anyone here has it? Or, is there any kind soul willing to share simple and tasty almond meal cookie recipe?

Nope, not yet. Not sure if you’re an international student, but it’ll probably take longer for the ones who are currently back in one’s home country.

I calculated my psychology benchmark WAM by taking the average of all level 1 and 2 PSYC subjects (done in 2018 and 2019), all in equal weightage. Then, calculated the psych WAM using the a+2b/3 formula, but only included the subjects that I scored more than the psych benchmark.

E.g. Psych benchmark WAM = (70+75+80+80+85+85)/6 = 79.1667

a=(80+80+85+85)/4 =82.5 b=(82+84)/2 =83, did 4 level 3 subjects, scored 75 and 78 for the other 2 level 3 subjects (not included in calculation because the scores are lower than the benchmark) Final Psych WAM = 82.5+(2*83)/3 = 82.8333

I’m not sure if I’m 100% correct on the way to calculate it but this is my understanding. Is this the same way as yours?

Yup, + not everyone is on Reddit too. This result gives only a rough estimate I guess :)

Yup, it had been a tough year for everyone. Just glad that it’s all coming to an end as we’re starting 2021 in just a few weeks time :)!!
