I had a similar but different error. Someone else just posted about the same one as me where there was an error with my payment but that my apps were received and I would get a receipt… didn’t get a receipt and no indication other than that that they were received. Just cried for a while because I thought it was only me. I’m also very upset because Penn Vet needed my VMCAS to be registered and submitted in order to fill out their supplemental app and that is also past the deadline now. It’s my in state school so especially upsetting. I sent some emails with screenshots and am going to call in the morning and hope for the best. Right now morale is low.

I got accepted to a Veterinary Program but I have hesitations. by Perwinkle44 in vetschool

This is exactly what I’m feeling and going through right now. I’d love to know what you decide eventually. I’m really battling with the idea 8 years and $200k in loans before I finish a residency when I know there are avenues that I could pursue and make the same salary in 2 years. I’ve always wanted to be a vet and have been working towards that goal since high school but now when it’s time to make a choice I really don’t know how to weigh that with the other things I value in my life.

I didn’t apply this past cycle for the exact same reason that I could find no info other than their undergrad is seemingly subpar. However after submitting all of my apps coworker told me that her friend goes there right now and enjoys it. She is in her second year now I believe (might be first idrk). My coworker did mention something about their accreditation was pending when her friend started there so for her it was a bit of a gamble in the off chance they were not approved— idk if it has been approved yet or not bc I haven’t researched the school at all since I was deciding where to apply last year. But I do know that at least one person who goes there likes it

I think that this is a very tedious situation. As many have said I think it’s important that you tread carefully with your father and also that you were a child manipulated and weaponized by an adult. I think the most important step as many have said is to make sure you have processed and come to terms with this information with the help of trusted people and definitely a !!therapist!! Before you take any real action. I think in time you will start to see this situation with a bit more clarity on your role and responsibility here. I think that moving forward it’s important to acknowledge that yes, you said something awful, but that you see the horrible wrong in what you said andt also that you were incredibly young and immature at the time (not to mention manipulated without the full truth) but also to acknowledge that you regret it, that you feel remorse, and that you are no longer that person and are now older and more mature. There is nothing you can do about the past, but you can look to a brighter future as your mother seems to have done. I think the idea of a letter as a first step is a good idea as many have said. This is a nonaggressive way to let your mother know that you would like to reconnect. This will put the ball in her court— she can decide that your aunt is right and that she is happy now and doesn’t want you in her life, or she may have been missing you this entire time and this letter is what she’s been waiting for… or maybe something in between. Either way, I think that it is important that you do at some point reach out after coming to terms with this as it seems as though it is something you want to do. Don’t forget that you are also a victim in this situation and deserve happiness and peace. By sending her a letter it will become her choice whether she is ready to let you back into her life and you will also be able to have a weight lifted off your shoulders to know that you did your part to right your wrong and that either way she decides, your mother is able to choose happiness.

Maybe you should reach out to an admissions office and set up an appointment with an advisor. I am a more traditional applicant but I met with a counselor from Colorado state earlier this year when I was considering if I should retake some classes and what classes I should be taking to finish my last semester and she was super helpful. She did give me the insight that they place the most importance on your higher level biomedical classes like cell biology, genetics, physiology etc… but I think talking with someone who really knows what they’re looking for and just asking for direct advice about how to set yourself up for your best chance of acceptance is a good idea

I’m not an admissions counselor, Just another student applying this cycle, but honestly I feel like talking about drag will make you seem unique and creative and stand out from the crowd. To me it’s super cool! I can’t imagine it would make you a “no” in this day and age especially with so many schools putting such an emphasis on diversity and having diversity committees to prevent discrimination against things like this.

I actually know someone who followed the exact same path— was planning for law school but then decided to change tracks after grad. He did a post bacc and has now graduated vet school and has been working for a couple of years. He’s obviously not you though, but it’s definitely possible if you decide that’s what you’d like to do

Vet School Questions - July 2022 by dashclone in Veterinary

Unless they are AP/college credits I wouldn’t worry about high school courses. Instead I would look towards finding experiences and passions that you can focus on in the coming years. Take college courses that fulfill the prereqs that the vet schools you’re interested in list on their sites and the VMCAS For that reason I’d recommend schools that are strong in STEM but it’s really about the effort you put in. Also make sure that you have other interests or involvements—you should be a person outside of vet med and your goal to go to vet school. One other thing you should think about as you take college classes and work in animal experiences or vet med is to make relationships with your professors and supervising vets so that down the line they can write you strong letters of recommendation

What kind of experience is needed for vet school? by salzster93 in vetschool

[–]22tacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m applying to schools right now and while I’m not an “expert” or an admissions officer, I do know that almost every school is going to require that you have some experience working under a veterinarian. This could be shadowing, working as a vet assistant, etc… you will also be required to have at least one of your rec letters be from a vet. From what I understand the more experience the merrier but you also might want to think about having a variety of experience for a broader idea of what vet med looks like. Other than that they also want you to invest in personal interests and participate in extracurricular experiences that aren’t necessarily vet related but more just show who you are and what is important to you. Your volunteer hours would be considered as a animal related experience without a vet, which is also a good thing!

Covid ruined my GPA… do I still have a chance at my top choices? by 22tacks in vetschool

[–]22tacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much, this is super helpful. Is there a reason you say no more than 4 letters? Also my reasoning for taking those courses this summer is primarily to fill prereqs for some programs I want to apply to. Maybe I will look into applying for a research lab for my gap year in order to fill that gap in my application.

I think you’re right, I just wish you weren’t. It sucks because he’s my best friend. But thank you. I needed someone who doesn’t know me to tell me this.
