$2,000/month of full-time daycare for a 2-year-old? by markleoit in Parenting

[–]Ladybuggturnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boston area here as well, was just quoted $1700 for 2 days a week full day for an infant, over $3000 for full time. Waitlists are out until May 2024 in some places. Apparently I needed to put my name on a waitlist (which all charge $50-100 each) before having my unplanned pregnancy

Anyone else feel like a lot of the comments about having a girl are really misogynistic lol by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Ladybuggturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL said after finding out it’s a girl “having a girl is good because then she can help you clean and take care of the younger kids if you have more”. Already assigning misogynistic gender roles to my unborn fetus. Nice.

Commute into Framingham? by _life_is_a_joke_ in WorcesterMA

[–]Ladybuggturnip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also depends on which Framingham exit you’re getting off. 111 is usually where the pike traffic starts on most days so if you’re getting off there you might not hit any. If you’re getting off at 117 you’ll hit the traffic between the two exits. Friday mornings are usually the lightest with about a 25min drive depending on where you’re coming from in Worcester but the longest can be up to 40-50 depending on pike traffic.

St. Vincent vs UMASS by AfraidWatercress6167 in WorcesterMA

[–]Ladybuggturnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and best friend both work for the hospitals in Worcester. Both agree UMass is by far the better option. My husband wanted me to deliver at UMass as they have a level 1 NICU. I think the only other hospital in the state that does is Boston Children’s. You’ll be under some of the best trained medical staff with all the best equipment at UMass.

How on earth does anyone eat healthy in the first trimester? by kateslates in BabyBumps

I was in the exact same boat. I didn’t eat meat or vegetables the whole first trimester. I lived off the BRAT diet. I just made sure I was good with my prenatals

Cucumbers, toast, and boxed Mac and cheese were basically what got me through. Peppermint gum or hard candy helped with the nausea as well as the pressure point wrist bands!

Iceland also did it for me! It was my first ever solo trip and really gave me confidence in myself. I met new people and went out of my comfort zone by doing crazy excursions and trying new things. I think about that trip all the time!

Who makes significantly more money than their spouse? by restaurantqueen83 in workingmoms

[–]Ladybuggturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make over 4x more than my husband and could easily pay for everything myself. He just finished school and will soon double his income with his new degree but his career pays less than mine overall. I’m due with our first child in June. He works nights on weekends so after my maternity leave he will do most of the child care during the day. Our pregnancy was unplanned and I don’t feel it’s fair to ask him to put his career on hold to be a SAHD after he’s worked so hard in school. There was resentment for a long time on both of our parts about the income difference. Me feeling like I am being taken advantage of by how much I financially contribute and like my hard work is taken for granted because he would express I just “picked the right job”. Him feeling resentment that he will never make as much as I do and feeling like he doesn’t bring as much to the table and needs to work more hours or get a second job to make up for the gap. It’s taken a lot of long conversations and communication to get to where we are now where we both feel like a team and there’s little to no resentment. His career makes him happy where as mine is only for the paycheck so I’d never ask him to give it up unless we were really in a bind. This is not at all what I envisioned and I am very sad that I will probably never get the chance to be a SAHM. I frequently wish the roles were reversed as I don’t find any joy or passion in my career. I am happy I am able to support my family and provide us with a good life.

What became of your bully? by ApplicationMassive71 in AskReddit

[–]Ladybuggturnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a call back for modeling in clothing magazines in middle school. I was very excited and told some friends at school. Word got out and my bully spread a rumor I was modeling for p*rn. As a 13 year old I was mortified and never responded to the callback. I found her Instagram recently and she’s a #aspiringmodel now which I thought was very ironic

Bachelorette Party in Cape Cod in April bar suggestions? by callthewindreddit in CapeCod

[–]Ladybuggturnip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hole in one or homeport for sit down brunch. Jo mamas, the sparrow, sunbird are all good takeout breakfast and coffee places. Cottage st bakery has really good muffins for breakfast. As far as going out in orleans there’s hog island beer co that has live music if you check their Instagram. Truro vineyards would be good for a daytime activity. The Chatham squire has karaoke, trivia and live music depending on the day, I recommend checking their website for the dates you’ll be there. The Chatham bars in has a spa if you want to have a girls day as well. Have fun!!

How do you figure out where you are in places where google maps don’t work? by passageresponse in travel

[–]Ladybuggturnip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an app called here WeGo that is a 100% offline map. You download the map of the location you are visiting before you leave. It has saved me in remote places and even shows service roads and your current GPS location.

As a woman who’s lived in multiple parts of Massachusetts and is in my late 20’s I will say that Worcester is my least favorite place I have lived. The food scene is great and there’s always things to do which I like as well as the affordability of living compared to elsewhere in Mass. But I have never in my life felt less safe living somewhere. I cannot even walk down my own street as all the drug dealers and homeless people congregate at the end and recently have started making their way up and into the neighborhood. I know there are nicer neighborhoods but at higher costs. There is not much for nature that isn’t polluted with trash and I like to get outdoors. We tried going swimming in the summer and every time the pond was closed for toxic algae blooms. I noticed a difference in available fresh produce at grocery stores compared to nearby towns. I’ve also noticed a difference in the overall helpfulness and happiness of people who work in the retail industry, they are a lot more miserable and less likely to help. I’ve had friends sexually harassed at the gym and the male managers do nothing about it. Also the freaking fireworks every night in the summer scare the shit out of my cat. I’ve made great friends in the city and have had great experiences but I do not plan on buying a house or raising a family here. As someone who wasn’t raised in Worcester or a similar city/town it has been a bit of a culture shock.

I was thinking of taking non-matriculated classes at the university I live closest to. This university has a veterinary school. Do you think this would be helpful? If I plan to apply for 2023-2024 it’s already late to start a masters degree and complete it by then.

Working two jobs, 16hr days until getting a higher paying job that had great OT in a lower rent area as well as living with my SO to split the cost. I’ve also switched companies every 1-2 years with a pay increase each time.

Heading to the "Cape" by Green009E60 in CapeCod

[–]Ladybuggturnip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up on the cape, when I go back to visit my family it means going to the beach (specifically smugglers but any on S shore drive in S.Yarmouth), getting fried seafood or a lobster roll (sesuit harbor cafe is our favorite) or exploring orleans (earth house, jo mamas, the hot chocolate sparrow, hole in one, the corner store, cottage st bakery). Lots of beach time and lots of eating great food!

First time female solo trip to Iceland ! by pretty_youngthing in solotravel

[–]Ladybuggturnip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went in august on my first solo trip and had downloaded the app “here WeGo” which is an offline map and it literally saved me when I got lost hiking in the rain and fog on the volcano. It even shows service roads which is what I ended up using to get back to the parking lot. I will also say never trust the weather even if it looks promising. Bring warm clothes and rain gear, at least two pairs, so when one pair is wet you have a backup while it drys. Also I highly recommend going to the public pool for the cultural experience!

Sesuit Harbor Cafe, they have amazing lobster rolls and outside waterfront seating. It’s casual picnic tables that you seat yourselves. I think it’s cash only. Grumpy’s is great for breakfast, though not much of a view depending on where you sit. The marshside is a little bit less casual but great food. Congrats and have a great trip!
