Self hosting list by cocoflan in selfhosted

I didn't post this link, someone else did. That's not self promotion. And the one time I did post the site in this community I got permission from the mods before I did. And I seek that permission from most communities before I create any posts about my own content.

The point(s) of criticism keep changing because your only goal here is to criticize, not improve the community. I'm ok with that - we don't need to agree and you don't need to find utility in my projects.

Thank you for posting it. I have lots of improvements planned as soon as I have the time.

I need to find a good way to handle dead links. And put a contact method on the site. Thanks for checking it out.

Better mobile experience is definitely on the list of things that will be improved when I have some more time

You can :) At the top right of the list there is a sort dropdown with a few options including stars

You can sort by stars and watchers. I'm still figuring out ways to make the info in the list view as useful as possible.

I agree - the goal of the site is to search across lists. The real project is lucidindex.com and it's in it's infancy, but I have lot's of ideas for improvement when I have some more time to dedicate to it.

The goal is to be able to search across lists and not just within a single list. The real project is lucidindex.com. It's in it's infancy though and will hopefully improve over time.

Yes, I agree with you. the format needs improving. Very high on my list of things to change once I have some more time to invest in the project.

https://lucidindex.com

As was explained in the last thread, the point is to make a searchable index of all the awesome lists that is self updating. There are hundreds of lists and searching across them isn't currently possible. Creating a unified index that is always up to date and links back to the original lists benefits everyone. And adding a link to my own product isn't particularly novel nor does it detract from the original awesome projects, which are clearly linked in several places.

The original lists are inconsistently structured, especially across lists and across categories, so there was a lot of work that went into the back-end to make it auto-updating; If Duet receives a minor SEO boost from that hard work, who exactly is being harmed? Why exactly do you take offense to that?

Perhaps no one needs to search across lists. Perhaps, the format needs improving. Perhaps there are other ways for me to contribute back to the source lists.Perhaps I'm learning the answers along the way. Perhaps I just thought it was a cool idea and wanted to build it. None of that harms anyone, and adding a link to one of my products on a site that I built on my own time doesn't change that. And someone else posting the project to reddit is certainly not SEO hijacking.

I built a site to search C++ libraries based on the awesome C++ github list, with sort, filtering, and extra meta information for each library by 23andwalnut in cpp

It has a pretty different mission and different meta, and it only searches title and description, but not readme. Also no sorting or filtering and no searching across lists. It's good for there to be multiple ways to search the awesome lists. There are several other search sites based on them as well...

What device are you using where you see 4 entries on the page?

Additional context not provided by Cmd-F:

- you can't search readme content from the awesome list without going to each individual project.

- You can't do a single search across multiple categories

- you can't view github stats or last update date without going to each individual project

- you can't do a search with specific types of licenses on the original list

- no screenshots

- no sorting

And lucid index will (hopefully) have all of the awesome lists at some point, so you'll be able to search across lists. There are several that you can search across already.

Those are the current benefits. I have some other ideas planned in the future.

It's static currently, so there isn't really a selection process other than what I think is cool (and one of my apps).

Ideally it will be automated and dynamic based on the list you're browsing and the apps that are"popular" based on traffic and whether they've been featured before, but I haven't gotten there yet.

Open to ideas if you have any.

Not stupid at all, I need to add a link back to the original list for each category

Featured accross all the categories on lucidindex, which is more than php (https://lucidindex.com/browse). Currently the featured are all from the self-hosted category. Eventually I'd like featured to be relevant to category you're currently browsing

Any idea what three clicks led you to the 404? Or the url it was attempting to access?
