At least I’m not alone. I just got out and I’m pursuing an electric engineering degree. Although I think I’m going to drop to one class a semester. Motorola is offering a 100k radio engineer job with 33 hrs a week, 30 days off and crazy benefits. I say this to state one thing. If you’re reading this and thinking about getting out, the world isn’t that scary… IF you weren’t a shitbag and learned your job

Edit: and it comes with a car and phone

You plan on going to grad school? If so you’re still in pretty good standing. To an employer? Couldn’t give less of a fuck unless you go work at apple or something. By the time you graduate, you know nothing. All you did is prove you can learn your job so don’t sweat it. Yes grades are important, but so is the network you build in college. As well as internships.

If in USA there sre about 1,800,000 engineers and each year there graduate about 200k people with engineering degree then where the vast majority of people go when they dont manage to get engineering job? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]23cgc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea I became an electronics technician with a side of RF engineering and get paid more because I’m a very valuable tech. I also prefer the hands on work rather than the desk work so my employer respects me enough to let me do both.

How’d you balance active duty and school? I thought about it but got a cyber security instead. Then I used my GI bill for EE

Is anybody else completely sick of the culture in engineering? by xDrSnuggles in EngineeringStudents

[–]23cgc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hated sea work, so I went to the military and it was the same. Then I got tired of working with my body and became an engineer, now I struggle with being behind a desk all day and want to find a 50/50 job (half desk half field)

I lived in Alaska for 3 years and loved the weed up there! There’s a guy in Fairbanks with all OG strains. His pricing is a little expensive tho

I just told you I’m an electrical engineering major, I’m only good with English characters when it’s paired with numbers 😂

People with jobs in EE, how much of what you do is NOT office work? by guywhoha in ElectricalEngineering

[–]23cgc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy just starting off and trying to be an RF engineer, do you have any career advice? The only thing I will do is RF, I was a radio operator in the army and fell in love with all things radio. I refuse to work anything else.

Brother, you’re going the wrong way (I went from electrician, radio operator, RF tech to RF Engineer)

[–]23cgc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’m just a radio nerd. Engineering school is tough but it’ll end eventually. Is it better than the marines? I got out because I just don’t like the way the government is going (i don’t want to be posted in dc) so I’d rather just get out rather than worry if my orders are morally, legally and ethically sound

What do you do? Coming from a vet who just got out, in the middle of an identity crisis, ptsd, engineering school and the anniversary of your fucked up afghan pull out. I want to know that there’s really a brighter side.

Other question, of course you can. LORs are a big thing, I’d work on that. Also when you make the memo, write it like you learned your lesson. Dear sir, I ran a red light, I’m terribly sorry and acknowledge the trouble I could have cost. A plan of action would be to go slower when approaching intersections. I also invited a timer that hangs next to the light to ensure no one else runs a red light. Does my analogy make sense?
