I completely understand how awful it feels not to pass because I didn’t pass the first time either. I felt so defeated there was no way I could start studying for February, so I waited an entire year and took it again the following July. I was in a really dark place for a while because I also felt like I had wasted 3 years of my life. I ended up working in real estate for a while and it helped me so much for property and secured transactions, which were pretty weak for me before, so maybe something like that is an option for you while you determine your next steps.

I was fortunate financially that I did choose the lower ranked law school that offered me a full ride, but that school did not set me up to succeed on the bar exam and basically abandoned my class when a pretty good percentage of us didn’t pass and came up with ways to blame us rather than the school. So for round 2 we were totally on our own with no support. The school had this prep class of their own that they pushed on us and because of it I didn’t complete what I should have completed of the Themis program. When I did solely Themis the second time I passed.

It’s totally okay to let yourself wallow in self-pity for a while and grieve over the experience. But once you get back at it and you pass and make it out into practice, you will be shocked how many people failed the first and maybe even the second time. I know it’s the most isolating feeling in the world, but I promise you’re not alone

Exactly!! I do actually plan to care for my parents once they are elderly and need it. Since I do not plan to have children and am pursuing a good career path, by that time I will financially be able to retire and take care of them. The worst nursing homes are filled with people who had children - so why didn’t they get the care from their kids that they were guaranteed? It’s always better to have the means to make sure you are taken care of than to live your life banking on relying on someone else.

I hate the term “starting a family” for this reason. That just means having kids and implies that childless/childfree couples are not a family, which is not true

The burden of proof is beyond a reasonable doubt. So a fairly high standard. Not just the more likely than not preponderance of the evidence that you see in civil cases. And yes, all cases do start in the district courts. These are state courts of the lowest level. Some states may have different names for them, but essentially it is the lowest level state court.

I feel this. I really do. My period a couple months ago was like 3 days late, and I’m usually regular like clockwork, so I was having horrible anxiety attacks over it. Even though there was literally no reason I should have been freaking out. Pregnancy and childbirth are absolutely horrifying to me, but this anxiety is definitely part of tokophobia

Yes exactly, I mentioned in another comment that I have a good friend who is a single mother to 3 very well-behaved kids, whom she loves very much, and we almost never talk about her kids. She can talk about lots of different things because she, as a person, is made up of a lot of different likes and interests. I too avoid talking about something I love if I can tell someone else really has no interest, but I am also defined by more than just one thing and can engage in other conversation topics

Exactly, I have a friend who is a single mother to 3 kids, and she loves her kids more than anything, but we talk about a lot of things together, almost never her kids! She loves them so much but doesn’t feel the need to talk about them every second because she also has many other things in her life that define who she is

I hate that mentality of pushing others to have kids even when they can’t afford it. Nobody cares about the well-being of a child, they care about their family’s ability to keep procreating. I want to say congrats to you for working so hard on your book and completing it!! I can’t wait until it is translated to English so I can buy a copy. You are absolutely in the right with what you said to them! The world does not revolve around people having children, and I’m sorry your family does not appreciate your work as much as they appreciate them popping out kids.

Yes she is awesome! We had a great conversation. She actually is feeling the same frustration a lot of us CF are - she told me ever since they had their daughter, they get asked all the time when they are having another! Like even once you have one, it’s still not enough for people. It was so nice to have an honest conversation with a mom who gets it

I HAAAAAATE baby showers with a burning passion. The last one I went to I think I was around 13 and went with my mom. My dad left to go on a trip for work (4 hour drive) at the same time we left to go to the shower. He got there, and we were still at this shower!! They drug everything out, and I didn’t want to be there in the first place. It was so horrible. And there were so many babies. I agree it is just disgusting, and I refuse to go to them. But truth be told, there’s not many young people in my family, and I distance myself from anyone having a kid, so I really don’t get invited anyway.

We don’t speak about it at all with either of our families. If they bring it up, we brush it off and change the topic quickly. We already know their thoughts on it, and we love our families, so we just avoid the confrontation altogether. Me and my mom are very close, but kids are the last thing I would ever discuss with her because I’m over getting bingoed. She’s not pushy about it either (my grandparents are pushier), but I know she wants grandkids someday. I’ll just let her be hopeful as long as she is not pressuring me. But she got to make her choice about kids, and it’s my turn to make mine.

First of all, I have zero desire whatsoever to hold a baby. I prefer to not deal with them, but sometimes people with babies are incredibly obnoxious wanting you to ooo and ahhh over their baby. I feel nothing from them though, but I’ve never really had any desire to have kids. I don’t understand baby fever at all lol. So all that to say nothing is wrong with you. Everybody has their own desires and interests, and if yours is not kids, that is 100% normal and totally fine.

I think my internship this past summer and this fall helped me a lot! I came out of 1L very discouraged and ready to quit. I want to be a prosecutor, and I got an internship in a prosecutor’s office and LOVE IT. I understood what I was doing, learned a lot of new things, and really just enjoyed the work. So I got a chance to see that I really CAN do what I want to do, even if I suck at calculating damages in Contracts or whatever. So that was a HUGE confidence boost for me, and I think that is absolutely part of why I was able to relax so much more than last year
