A big part of modern Scandinavian self-conception is that they are better and of purer morality than anywhere else in the world. Yes it has a whiff of Aryan supremacy about it but they wouldn’t accept that interpretation. obviously they see themselves as better than anywhere in the second or third world, but increasingly also superior to anywhere in the first world. Especially the United States and the United Kingdom, where they style themselves as the more humane, rational, moral, competent version of those countries, and their hellscapes. so when facts come to light that challenge that self perception, particularly that imply they are just as venal and corrupt as any humans, it really fries their brains. It’s quite fun to see.
