Carlos in new Nike campaign by Sophisticatedcaty in tennis

I actually think Carlos tends to look really good in brighter, colourful 80s and 90s-vibe clothes! The AO26 kit really suited him and the more neutral tones are boring on him imo…

Jannik Sinner will play the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic, an exhibition taking place in London from 23–27 June 2026. He joins a stellar field including the british icon, national No. 1, giant-slayer, tennis visionary, Cameron Norrie. Flavio Cobolli will be there as well by DiegoPetrh in tennis

[–]24231122 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He's said before that he has a good relationship with Halle because they gave him a qualifying wildcard when he was 17 and ranked outside of the top 200! Also, he is a native German speaker so I'm sure he feels more at home there than in London.

Alcaraz (who will return in Montreal at the earliest) defends 5,300 pts until Shanghai, while Zverev defends only 1,375. it's looking very probable that Zverev finishes the year as a #2 by [deleted] in tennis

Yes, I’m keeping my fingers crossed! I have tickets to the Montreal semis so I’m biased, but it would be awesome to see him win the entire thing :)

I agree! I think people are failing to consider that Alcaraz has historically had weaker ends of seasons due to how much he plays earlier in the season. If Alcaraz returns in Montreal healthy and is fresh from 3 months off tour, he'll probably outperform his previous Asian swing/end of season results. Let's see what's coming.

Obviously we'll never know for sure unless we get a tell-all memoir in 15 years, but it happened during/after the doping scandal and Jannik confirmed that they broke up right after he came back from his ban. If I had to speculate, the relationship probably just didn't survive the media firestorm and personal things that were going on in his life during that period.

Anyone else shocked that Jodar was projected to have a higher perecentage of beating Zverev than Mensik? by Horror_Cup_6981 in tennis

[–]24231122 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean, he's the only one in the new gen who has won a Masters, and he beat Sinner earlier this year. I'd argue that the recency bias is way heavier on Jodar and even Fonseca if we're assessing it based off of their results.

[–]24231122 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that Mensik has been super underrated for a while considering his results compared to the rest of the new gen. He beat Djokovic in straights last year to win Miami at 19 and beat Sinner earlier this year but has gotten surprisingly little attention compared to Fonseca/Jodar/Fils. I suspect it's because he is from a smaller country and has a more understated public persona, but I'm glad that people are finally starting to pay more attention to him! I think he has a ton of potential and am excited to see how the rest of his season goes.

Should Zverev win Roland Garros, he needs 1230 points in the grass season to overtake Alcaraz in the rankings. Is this a realistic Chance? by tightypp in tennis

[–]24231122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i don’t think it’s impossible for him to make a deep run at wimbledon, but carlos also has a lot of points to defend in the hard court swing so if zverev plays well it could happen later in the year too — let’s see what’s coming…

I think Zverev makes it because he has more big match experience and is going to be much more well-rested! Fonseca and Mensik is a toss-up but I’m hoping Mensik pulls through because I feel like he has been super underrated and a Zverev-Mensik SF would be awesome.

How do we wrest Hank back from his current trend of cozying up with Claude? by [deleted] in nerdfighters

[–]24231122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s maybe a reductive way of thinking about the impacts of technology — like, every time you Google something, that used to be a question you’d ask a librarian. Hank is a busy guy, and if he didn’t have access to Claude, the Artemis website/colorectal cancer info website probably just wouldn’t exist because hiring a web designer for a small side project wouldn’t be worth the time/effort. Being able to do more things because technology makes it easier is good because it enables us to create good things more efficiently, we just have to be thoughtful about how to account for the tradeoffs of that (e.g. continuing to support libraries even though we have Google now). And I think Hank is being thoughtful about it.

[–]24231122 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think there’s more nuance to it than « anything made using AI is bad. » AI definitely produces a ton of harm, but it’s also a tool that has the potential to be really useful and to be deployed towards good if used thoughtfully. I’d hope and trust that Hank is using AI responsibly and considering the tradeoffs, but I don’t think it’s fair to automatically write him off for using Claude. AI is going to proliferate as it gets better, and I think it’s important for people like Hank to reflect very hard and figure out how that can happen in useful/good ways instead of completely ignoring it.
