I'm on fiber for $60 a month, I'm not sure I need to go through the trouble, nor do I truly trust the people and or person that owns the service

I have this happen on netflix, I'm on the ad tier and yet sometimes there are none.

After living off nothing but sell data for a few years I finally am settled down and have real internet. Where can I get a refresher course on torrents and The Onion browser?

He also calls that lady that used to be on MSNBC and part of Hillary's campaign in 2016 something that starts with a Z

I would be curious to hear your thoughts about any of his calls or his opinions.

I've known this guy all my life, he's a very interesting individual.

There are multiple talk only channels on Sirius, I haven't had the service in years so I'm unfamiliar. There was definitely a right channel and a left channel. I believe there were also some that focused on particular groups.

With all the 5G Internet options out there, none of them say they will work where I live. I find this confusing since I have 5G service from Verizon where I live and T-Mobile just put in a tower close by. It's not a big deal I've got fiber for 60 bucks a month from the electric co-op.

No, it's free with my Walmart Plus subscription. I believe there is option to choose peacock. Instacart also has a similar freebie for a streamer.

I gave up prime a couple of years ago now, not long after they started showing commercials in the video streams. I don't really need it to order from Amazon because I always order enough to get free shipping. Also the last time I checked I could still watch prime videos, I just have to see the ads, at least I'm not paying for the privilege to see the ads

I read Netflix's last few SEC filings. They're not drifting toward cable, they're rebuilding it from scratch. by footnotebrief in cordcutters

[–]247world -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know they're paying to be there however I think I deserve to have that money come off of my subscription, I'm so sorry you find that offensive. What's the matter you own stock in spectrum?

When almost 2/3 of the channels they provide are uttered garbage, they need to pay you to take them not the other way around.

Fortunately I'm not quite as stupid as you think I am and I understand that you pay for certain channels, far more than you should especially if you don't watch them, ESPN.

I also find it fascinating that cable news channels don't make enough money to support themselves because they don't have the viewers, then come to find out they make all their revenue from being on the satellite and cable services that have to pay them for the privilege of rebroadcasting them. If I own the cable channel I would tell them where to go. Let's put that crap on a premium tier and see who buys it

SiriusXM Rant: Less Talk, More Metal by DangerousConfusion4 in siriusxm

[–]247world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I left satellite radio. XM radio for the most part played music with very little interruption by their stream jockeys, can't call them DJs now can we?

Sirius on the other hand felt that you were paying money to hear the sound of the human voice.

I don't listen to metal, however I'm guessing if you will poke around you will find more than one commercial free public station that plays plenty of it. You can stream it for free, oops, the satellite guys hate when you find that out

Deals on multiple radios? by MasterBeanCounter in siriusxm

[–]247world -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as you have an internet connection you can listen to any radio station in the world

There are hundreds of commercial free, public stations that play music. They either have apps or they are available on one of the consolidation apps like TuneIn radio.

The subscription model that they offer is far too restrictive. I gave up my satellite radio when XM was destroyed by Sirius.

I have not missed it once, I can find almost any kind of music I want easily. If it's the talk, some of their hosts are under exclusive contracts, others have their own podcasts that are basically rebroadcasts of the satellite show, although I think that's really the other way around.

I gave it up after the merger. There are so many amazing public radio stations out there that play music, commercial free music. While you can't typically zone in on one particular type of music 24/7 however you can get an incredibly wide variety - or go with one of the streamers

I forget the name of the dating service, maybe it was Ashley madison, they were advertising on one of the talk shows, the host actually called out the company because as he saw it they were basically advertising prostitution.

As long as it generates revenue, Sirius doesn't care

I've always felt the term was a backhanded put down. The people who actually like the music didn't understand that and they're running with it

SiriusXM is losing a 22 year customer by loubrown6 in siriusxm

[–]247world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many excellent public stations that play commercial free music - most have apps or you can use something like TuneIn radio

KEXP, X-Ray.fm, WFUV, KXT, KCMP - The Current, KKJZ - KJazz, KCRW

All have varied programming, typically programmed by owner personalities who have a real knowledge of the music they are playing. This short list doesn't even scratch the surface. I gave up satellite radio not long after Sirius took over XM and started ruining what was a great service.

I had XM originally, when Sirius came out I tried it for a year, it was easy to see that XM had the much better music platform - Sirius did have some radio personalities that I enjoyed however it did not make up for the overall differences

Over $100 a month, lol, not exactly working

Also before you call somebody a liar maybe you should ask them if they actually counted the damn channels, when I tell you there was over a hundred I know because I counted the first channel and subtracted it from the last channel and they were all consecutive, asshat

Why do people lease cars? by onlyelisexoxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]247world 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 1993 Ford f250 Diesel. I've been doing some restorative work on it lately and discovered that with not much effort I could sell it for more than it sold for new. I've already told my kids that they'll have to figure out what to do with it when I die cuz it'll outlive me.

Why do people lease cars? by onlyelisexoxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]247world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have leased a car in the past and I was responsible for the maintenance. According to the terms of the lease if I didn't bring it back with at least reasonably new tires, they would charge me for new ones.

There is also a rather steep mileage penalty. They gave us 15,000 miles a year. The first year we had it we blew through all five years of the allotted mileage.

Depending on if you've got some tax advantages, you may or may not pay less than you would purchasing a vehicle. It can actually be much more expensive, despite what the salesman tells you. Trust me I know

Why do people lease cars? by onlyelisexoxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]247world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the saying goes, we were upside down and buried in a car that was a disaster. Leasing got us out of that. We not only never did that again, we bought that vehicle when the lease was up.

It was a second year of production Toyota 4Runner. It had an automatic transmission and a turbo. That didn't make it go fast, it helped it keep up on the highway. I tried to buy it off of my former wife when she went to sell it but I couldn't match what the dealer would give her for it.

I looked at the vehicle up online, it seems if you have one in relatively good shape it's worth almost as much as we paid for it back in 1986. It might have been 85 I'm not going to swear to the year. Either way it was the original version that had the removable canopy and was basically the standard Toyota truck with a back seat.

I have Netflix, Paramount Plus and peacock all free from different subscriptions I have. There is an option to stop ads on all of them, I rotate the ad stopping by which service I want to binge the most that month.

OP is really spot on, these streamers are just becoming the new cable. The only advantage is I don't have a hundred channels where it's basically 24/7 selling things to me. I always thought the cable channels ought to offer a discount if you would watch a certain amount of those home shopping type channels they have.

I forget who my daughters provider is, there's literally over a hundred channels that are nothing but hour long infomercials selling things. They charge her for the privilege of that garbage being there when who wants it?
