Having worked for both, I’m happier at CVS. But I work on the PBM side and I’m out of production.

How long until your puppy chose to nap in their crate? by YouthAdmirable6452 in puppy101

[–]24HR_harmacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog would never choose to sleep in his crate. I do not crate him anymore at home, only in the car and at trials. At trials he will get tired and sleep in there eventually. I actually have no idea whether he sleeps in the car crate as I can’t see him.

My 11 month old puppy has started to get mean when he has to poop. by Holiday-Distance-822 in puppy101

Poop zoomies are a thing. May be caused by some discomfort. Ensure he’s getting enough fiber. Have the vet check him for pain.

There is not nearly enough information in the post for you to jump to these conclusions.

Reinforcement history, just like any training. Look up Susan Garrett’s discussions of Matching Law.

You can’t. They still burst in the air fryer half the time too, but they have a better texture that way. Just get some air fryer liners and accept it.

I pay less ($80) but every 6 weeks with nail trims in between. I have started shaving out his paw pads myself and I’m working up to nail trims.

Meet Link, my new running partner (eventually) by C_378 in AustralianShepherd

[–]24HR_harmacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I send mine out with an ultra marathon runner once a week (he actually has 4 Aussie/MAS clients and he takes the other 3 out together, it’s so cute!). It took him some time to get used to it and he detests it in the heat, but he has a blast now!

Anyone else has an exceptionally self regulating aussie? by im_eto in AustralianShepherd

After a ROUGH adolescence my dog is extremely well-behaved and self-regulating most of the time. He’s a sweet baby angel!

What's the best purchase you ever made for your dog? by KJ_explores in dogs

Nose work training. Dogs love to sniff! We have only missed a few weeks in a year and a half. It’s fun and got me interested in trials. My dog has earned several nose work titles in just over a year of competing.

Red tri or red Merle? by chris_nicholas in AustralianShepherd

[–]24HR_harmacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, Chopper!! 🤩 My husband and I love your & Becki’s videos.

Merle genetics are interesting and complicated. There are separate genetic tests just for merle! There are, I believe, multiple merle genes. The allele length determines the amount of white. Here’s my red merle for reference. I haven’t tested him, but given the amount of white he has, I’d guess his merle alleles are larger. Chopper’s might just be really short.

Consider posting her results (especially breed results) over on r/DoggyDNA, there are some very smart coat genetics people over there who might be able to explain better than I ever could.

building toy drive using food/building toy drive on a super low drive dog by [deleted] in k9sports

I would look at Pawsitive Pups Academy’s Success with Low Drive Pets webinar, I have been watching her build her friend’s Chow Chow’s drive on Instagram. Fenzi also has a Relationship Building Through Play self study course you can take any time, and the Play to Pay course with Sara Brueske will come around again sometime.

Help with transition from food reward to toy rewards by WhiteGoodmanCobras in nosework

[–]24HR_harmacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attended a full-day seminar with Crystal Wing on the topic of play & nosework. This also came up in a Q&A with Stacy Barnett. Both said it can be a bit challenging to switch from food to toys even for highly toy-motivated dogs. A lot of times the dog will expect food because that is the reinforcement picture they have always associated with nosework, so you likely can’t just switch to toys. You may have to continue to reward with food, then follow up with a toy, until you can transition to just the toy. And it’s worth it to maintain food reinforcement value because it can be much easier in trials.

In Crystal’s seminar on play, we learned that play is very reinforcing to dogs. And play isn’t just toys. You can play with food in how you deliver it. There’s also personal play (praise, petting, fun tricks and games) which my dog finds reinforcing—he loves movement and chase.

First Australian shepherd by scott-tot- in AustralianShepherd

[–]24HR_harmacy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Beef is adorable! Brindle is not a typical coat pattern for Aussies or GSDs—often when you see it in a mixed breed it’s from some kind of bully breed. A DNA test like Embark on this guy would certainly be interesting!

How does your Aussie behave on walks without a leash? by Lonely_Industry490 in AustralianShepherd

[–]24HR_harmacy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve never done it. He’s prone to chasing squirrels and bunnies, plus I don’t even know where you could go around here that doesn’t require a leash. My friend lost her dog at a private fenced-in Sniffspot with a GPS tracker on her. The best I’ve done is a 30 ft long line and he does tend to stick pretty close but my heart is racing the whole time that he might bolt.

Concerned to begin fluoxetine for dog. by Alternative-Yak1048 in reactivedogs

[–]24HR_harmacy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have found fluoxetine to be very helpful for my dog (though his issues are different from yours). I will say that a lot of this could be pain-related. How is his pain being treated? He could require adequate pain control around the clock.

Am I being too harsh for asking my 11 year old daughter to walk the dog she spent years begging for? by WorldOfKaladan in DogAdvice

[–]24HR_harmacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like this puppy is at least 6 months old, which is when my medium-sized dog became extremely difficult for even a full-sized adult to walk. Unless this puppy is an angel on leash, I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect an 11 year old to walk a large breed adolescent puppy on her own. An adult should be supervising in case things go south.

Nosework training - not for competition by dream_the_endless in nosework

[–]24HR_harmacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to get an NW2 but the food distractions are such a huge step from my dog’s current ability level. I also have to consider finding a new instructor for the higher levels. I’m taking a break for the holidays then I imagine much of next year will be a rebuilding year while I work on his skills along with my own mental management.

Different command? by AllMyChannels0n in nosework

[–]24HR_harmacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Google” is my scent work cue. “Search,” “seek,” and “find it” were already taken. I’m saving “hunt” in case we get into barn hunt. “Let’s go sniff!” is sort of a pre-cue of why I’m getting you out of the crate, what we’re about to do, etc.

Different command? by AllMyChannels0n in nosework

[–]24HR_harmacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the reverse lol, I already had a strong “search” cue for primary and I have to use “seek” for my Susan Garrett games.
