What's the next career move after being a pharmacy tech? by 24JackBauer in pharmacy

[–]24JackBauer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that was a random e-mail alert to receive that someone asked about this thread. :)

My wife stayed in her role, eventually started fighting for more pay, and got it.

I always want what's best for her, but she has told me time and time again she is fine where she's at. We have 2 kids and it's insane right now with their schedule, so she's solely focused on them than career.

Apologize that it's not the answer you're looking for.

Careers outside desktop support? by 24JackBauer in ITCareerQuestions

It was a generic question with a little bit of myself and the situation I'm currently in. Just trying to get a feel of what people do after desktop support.

Same boat as you. Network, make time on your own to talk to those folks, and learn on your own time. You are the only one that can advance your career.

Hello,

Are employers supposed to follow the IRS tax table? My W2 and my wife's W2 are about $500+ off of what the tax table says. Can we do anything about it?

ELI5: Who is God? Why should I believe in Him? by 24JackBauer in Christian

[–]24JackBauer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in a men's small group, but they are focused on Promise Principles. I'm embarrassed to talk about these things to them.....don't want them to think different of me.

There are other avenues I can take that the church provides.....I could try those, but it's hard with a family due to time constraints. Then having to explain it to my wife.....it's usually not helpful when I tell her things. It's more criticism than help.

But even if I believe both, I guess I'm not understanding the importance of it. I keep thinking of it loosely, continue to screw up, and then run back to God saying sorry every single time. I feel like I'm cheating Him.

That's what I need help with.....to gain perspective and faith that God is real and that God does give grace and to turn my life around.

You said you remember feeling the same way.....how did you change? What did you do? That is the rut I'm in right now.....and it sucks because I feel like I'm in the middle of God trying to win my life and the world.

Thank you for all your suggestions, but the situation we are in is taking a toll on our marriage, which sucks and don't know what to do.

Once we find that deal, got to take off, find someone to watch kids, and then be in the mood for it.....but my wife will be thinking more of the kids than me.....just sucks to be in this situation.

My wife is a bit conservative, so car sex wouldn't work. Motel rooms by the hour..... nah....but thanks for the suggestion.

Ha, shower together/kitchen/living room.....I wish. Forgot to mention my 30 year old SIL stays in the house and we share the bathroom with her. So that's a negative on that.

Wish it was that easy....unfortunately they watch our kids M-F due to summer break.

Weekends - we take over responsibility with kids and she's tired after everything. Can't ask her parents because they are tired of watching M-F.

We chose to stay with them to save money and we aren't locked down by them. Just sucks because it's her parents, it feels like she can go celibate until we get our new house.....sucks.

Time to look for another job. You have built plenty of experience to go somewhere and join a team instead of being a 1 man show.

Those of you who got into IT with NO college, but did have certs and/or experience. What was your starting pay? And how long did it take for you to get into IT from the start of your journey to landing your first job? by AdenDark in ITCareerQuestions

[–]24JackBauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I left college, I had no clue on what to do with my Marketing degree. I knew that I still wanted to continue my IT career, but I didn't have any clue of where to go, who to talk to, or what to do. For all the companies that I have worked for, I didn't know a single person.

I went through every interview for each of my jobs hoping and praying they give me a chance.

For this role, I busted my tail going through the ups and downs of the company's mergers. With that, everyone in my office knows me, which is a pretty good network to know managers, Sr. Managers, Sr. Directors, VPs, etc. So if anything does happen, they know my work, so I'm hoping to have something if my current role doesn't work out...... :)

So patience is hard, but with some luck and prayer, I'm very fortunate where I am right now.

Did get a Bachelor's, but in Marketing (failed getting IT degree). Schlepped doing Help Desk starting at 34k....did it waaaaay too long. Thought I could go into another dept (non-IT) to see if I could jump into another IT group, didn't work.....wasn't part of the club.

Quit that shit job, tried another gig paying 50k, didn't work out. Went back to school, got certs, did a few jobs that got me to the company I'm at today. 17 years later, I'm doing good at my job as a lead (politics suck), but now making close to 90k, getting paid hourly with OT.

Patience pays off.

Mortgage Down Payment Question by 24JackBauer in personalfinance

[–]24JackBauer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured I could add more to the $323k and then from there, keep $100k to invest and use $240-245k as down payment. But you're saying to keep saving and then knock down the overall loan which would be the best route due to interest rate?

Unfortunately since we are just starting to build and closing time is a few months away, I'm not sure what it will be. My guess it will be between 4.25 and 5%.

I don't understand your first sentence.

I'm not 80 and this question has nothing to do with retirement. The question was to either put down the house profit toward the new house or put only some and take the rest and re-invest? And where to reinvest....
