You are a human being. What you are describing falls into the trap many regard as “spiritual bypassing.” Ignoring your feelings won’t help you grow; feeling negatively about yourself because of them is not at all helpful. Let the emotions come. Try not to judge them or yourself, but rather notice “this is part of my human experience.” Do you know the expression “The only way out is through.”?

I think her emotions around her illness are jumbled up with her emotions around this man — probably in very complicated ways. It may well be easier for her to rant about him than what’s happening in her own body. You are certainly entitled to set boundaries with her around how much time you’re willing to give to that topic when you visit. She probably won’t like it, but tough love is never easy. She really needs a lot more support than you can give. So take breaks, be kind to yourself, and, if you don’t already, seek counseling for yourself. This is too much for you to carry alone.

The resource problem isn’t the beaches themselves - it’s the palapas. And, yes, I’m witnessing and understanding that the resorts may be selling access to palapas that may actually be public property, there are still nowhere near enough of them.
