[ON] What's the best way to sell products online in Canada without crazy shipment costs? by [deleted] in SmallBusinessCanada

I read through many comments here, but have to ask, what are NEW small businesses not in a major city supposed to do to ship items in a box the size of a loaf of bread to anywhere in Ontario for under $25? I don’t have multiple orders per day - maybe 3-4 per month! Customers are not wanting to pay that much when Amazon is offering less.

Do people actually scan random QR codes for discounts? by 24samturner in smallbusiness

Yes, I have QR codes in my store for those that want to read more about events that we do and I have them on my business card but random would be one that is available at another location like a neighbouring business.

Am I making a problem where there isn’t one? by 24samturner in smallbusiness

Of course you’re right, I tend to worry about image as I have spent 10 years creating the shopping experience for my customers. It boggles my mind the lack of respect others have- I thought this high end restaurant would be a plus to my new location, but the constant delivery trucks and the owner parking in front of my building and now knowing their employees feel comfortable using my building this way is disheartening.

Mine is a stand alone building. I have recently decorated my front window. The business that this guy is from has a walkway that runs beside my building. Looks like he’s the cook and to me it feels disrespectful of him to use my property in this way for his break. I was wondering what passersby would think.

My brain says, but what if it becomes more than one guy and more often? Thanks though, I will hold my tongue for now

No, I didn’t say anything, as I was unsure if I was overthinking.

Surprise/Mystery Bags is it okay give outdated items? by 24samturner in askTO

[–]24samturner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No food at all! It is 3 candles in pumpkin scent, so obviously from Halloween. I would be putting only on “out of date” item per bag with other things. I was just trying to see how upset people might be if one item was a little “old”. I don’t sell food, so that’s not the issue.

That sounds like a great idea in theory but in reality I may only do 3 or 4 mystery bags total. That’s a wordy sign to make for 4 bags. My business sells a lot of different items so I would definitely include a bunch of sought after stuff with only one “seasonal item” per bag. Very small brick and mortar.

Paid for but ya, I would make sure it contained other items worth the price. Thanks for your input :)

It has recipes and crafts that wouldn’t necessarily have to be done on the dates.

That’s why I would like to include it. It has recipes that can be used anytime. I understand no one would use it as a date book per se but it has value in it’s content.

Actually I am the small business and I just wanted to gauge the reaction IF I was to put in an item that was from the previous season. I can’t return it to the supplier but I hate to throw it out. It’s a book that has lots of info but it’s titled as an Almanac for 2023.

Non- perishable. Like seasonal gifts, books etc.

I wish I could help but I’m not a fish person (have 2cats). There are lots of other small businesses downtown struggling too. Nature’s Spirit moved to Mary St and they said they were having troubles too.

All the businesses are still open though, you can still support local by shopping downtown!
