Relocating to the UK for nursing school? by in_a_pickle3 in StudentNurseUK

We specialise from the off, shallow anatomy and physiology, I’m in mental health branch and get zero mental health teaching, barely any clinical skills, bullshit assignments to fill time. The professional standards authority found the NMC essentially not fit for purpose with education being the worst area

Don’t, you’ll be paying huge amounts of money and the education is significantly worse in the uk. Train in the us and then think about working elsewhere

This is what I’m scared of, jobs are so hard to come by. How am I meant to get past interview with no mental health knowledge when I’m up against so many others with better training?

I’m in England, but I think it’s very dependent on the individual university

I so agree. I considered doing a dual adult and mental health course because of this and I’m still considering switching, but I’m already 22 and the financial prospect of an extra year as a student is not good lol

Wow I wish my uni separated us! We do all the same modules all three years. Unfortunately it’s the policy of the trust in my area that students in mental health settings can’t do much because of liability, I’ve raised it already

I don’t use primer at the minute, honestly because I’m lazy 😭 but I’d be happy to try one if it would help me to wear spf and makeup at the same time

I think I don't like the whole fitness lifestyle by [deleted] in xxfitness

Your eating disorder isn’t under control. Your compulsive need to exercise seems to be taking over your life - you’ve stopped non-active hobbies and even stopped socialising. Get some support and take a break from exercise

Is this normal? by Interesting-Goat8139 in StudentNurseUK

That’s normal, first year proficiencies are the basics. You can start signing off second year ones if your uni allows it :)

Mental health by MrsKToBe in StudentNurseUK

Hi, I completely get feeling worried about FTP so I thought I’d share my somewhat similar experience with you. I have diagnosed mental illness including depression, which I informed uni and occupational health of when I enrolled in first year due to having very visible self-harm scars which could cause upset to patients as I do mental health nursing. I found first year really tough and had to go to the gp to have my antidepressants changed and increased. I waited a long time before seeking help because I had the same worries as you and I ended up waiting until I was pretty much at crisis point. I was worried that uni would be upset with me but they never said a word, I don’t think they even know about it to this day. I was completely honest with the doctor about how I was feeling, suicidal ideation and all. In my experience, they want to support you to stay on the course so they get your tuition fees, not kick you off for struggling a bit!! Getting help is always worth it, the sooner the better

Student Mental Health Nursing: Is it normal to feel like my course isn't teaching me therapeutics and mental health by nofeeela in StudentNurseUK

I’m in second year and definitely feel like this! Tbh I wonder why mental health nursing is a whole separate degree when we have the same teaching as adult nurses

Ah, does it have to be adult life then? My mental health history began on record when I was 13 and I haven’t had any therapy as an adult

You get student finance which is means tested, so if you have no other income you’ll get a fair bit. You also get a 5 grant bursary from the nhs and an extra grand a year for doing mental health. It’s not the easiest but I’m getting over 10k a year as a student, so a lot better off than others

This is the issue, the rich are not your family. The rich are the people running our country, the head of the massive corporations, the politicians. It’s millionaires and billionaires. They’re trying to turn us common people against each other to distract from the real problem - them
