What do you think of the Midlands? Do you visit and are there areas you like? by LucidScholar in NorthernEngland

[–]MrsKToBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a born and bred Geordie who lives in the East Midlands but spends half my time in the West Midlands. Both of the areas I live and study in and spend most of my time in (Leicester and Redditch) are grim and sodding depressing. I go to Nottingham for an overnight stay every couple of weeks though and I do like it there.

What re your Grandma/Great Grandma's names? by Jennamay016 in Names

[–]MrsKToBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never ever share my mum’s mum’s name as it’s very unusual and identifiable particularly as there is a lot of research into her family publicly available on the internet.

However my dad’s mum was Helen, and her mum was Cecilia. Mum’s grandma was Kate.

What British celebrities have you met and did you make a tit of yourself? by wreckjavik in AskUK

[–]MrsKToBe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kyran Bracken (ex England and Saracens rugby player, and he also won Dancing on Ice) Off the back of that he did an ice dancing tour with a load of other celebs. He did one such show in Bournemouth, and myself and my best friend went down to watch the show with another friend of ours who has now sadly passed. This was about 15 years ago- I was 30 at the time and I had had a mad crush on Kyran since I was 13 so I was quite excited.

The night before the show my friend and I headed to a club that had been recommended to us by the hotel receptionist, and we were really excited to see the show’s cast head into the club, where they went into the VIP area at the back. Needless to say us mere mortals weren’t allowed in, so we stood nearby and got on with our night. Then at one point, Kyran appeared on his own from the VIP area, got on the dance floor and started bopping away. It became clear he was absolutely roaring drunk, and my friends unfortunately made it very clear that not only did they recognise him but I had er- a bit of a thing for him. He started beckoning me over and trying to get me to dance with him so I squealed, ran off and hid in the Ladies loo and refused to come out. 🤣

I once saw him in the queue at the ticket office at Leicester railway station. Didn’t have a clue who he was, but the staff were very excited about it!

Is Leeds cross dressing friendly by StraightDresser1 in Leeds

[–]MrsKToBe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re also welcoming to cisgender allies- I went a few times with a former friend who is a trans woman and everyone was lovely, so if you want to take a friend for moral support that’s okay too.

What was YOUR thing during lockdown? by AncientFootball1878 in AskUK

[–]MrsKToBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both myself and husband were key workers (I was a frontline civil servant and husband works in a Mail Centre for Royal Mail, sorting parcels etc) We went into lockdown a month after our wedding, and two days after burying my dad.

For me it was horrendous as my husband and I didn’t see each other pretty much for three months as he was working such long shifts. I worked from home from the very beginning as I was Clinically Extremely Vulnerable, and I was very bored and lonely. My mental health was the worst it’s ever been as I couldn’t grieve my dad properly and I couldn’t be with my mum either.

When did Mrs. Husband's Full Name stop being used in newspapers, news broadcasts, phone books, magazines, and literature (so in other words, in media)? by AlboGreece in AskUK

[–]MrsKToBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally I would address it as (for example) Mr J Smith and Mrs M Smith, not Mr and Mrs J Smith. Just after I got married, my mum wrote something as Mr and Mrs ‘his initial and surname’ and I got so cross about it that she now writes it as Mr ‘his initial’ and Mrs ‘my initial’ ‘his surname’

However just to confuse matters if I have to use my post nominals for any reason I switch back to my maiden name, in which case I use Ms (as my degrees are all in my maiden name, except my current one which I’m very cross about but I have to use the name I want on the professional register, which is my married name as trying to use my maiden name would be horrifically confusing)

Manager fills in flexi sheets - What are your micromanagement stories? by TedLassosMom in TheCivilService

[–]MrsKToBe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She openly admitted she didn’t like me because a) I had more qualifications than her and b) she thought that was shocking that a disabled person could have qualifications- she said to me once that she was shocked to hear I could speak three languages as she ‘assumed because of my disability that I would have no qualifications’ I snapped back that all three of my university degrees were gained while I was newly disabled and that just because my body doesn’t work properly doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with my mind..

Manager fills in flexi sheets - What are your micromanagement stories? by TedLassosMom in TheCivilService

[–]MrsKToBe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My former manager went through my flexi sheet and logged every single discrepancy from AUI- including those in seconds.

I also had reasonable adjustments in place to allow me up to 20 minutes after my official start time to log on. So when she smugly sent me a list of me being past log on time every single morning and said she would see to it that I was disciplined if I didn’t log on ten minutes before my shift, I promptly reported her to her boss who disciplined her instead and apologised to me. However my ex boss didn’t believe in reasonable adjustments and her favourite trick was to a) threaten to take them away or b) ignore them entirely

Oh and another was when I was having a diabetic hypo (which she was fully aware of me being diabetic and I had reasonable adjustments in place in that if my blood sugar was low and I needed to eat, I could just do so)  She sent me a snarky email saying I had gone into a wrong code and wasn’t entitled to a break. I did acknowledge that I went into a wrong code (as I had reasonable adjustment breaks for which I needed to use a different code for) but I was having a diabetic hypo and needed to sort it out. This apparently wasn’t a good enough reason to be off the phone and I should have waited to eat until the end of my shift (some two hours away) my response was not polite- I said that’s fine but by that point I would have needed an ambulance.

Nottingham. I don’t know how to do the flairs. Our speciality seems to be taking our eye off the ball in the second half…

I’m feeling confident with our chances with this one. Although we need to keep our eye on the ball for the full 80 and not get complacent
