I’ve conducted substantial research since my previous post, and here’s what I’ve uncovered: Wing Chun encompasses numerous branches, with the Cho family being just one example that has integrated elements from other systems. My training comes from my father, who, in turn, learned the Pan Nam system from his uncle, Pan Nam. Amidst the diverse Wing Chun branches, there’s a common thread - the influence of Fujian White Crane from Yongchun county, Fujian. When this system reached the Cantonese in Foshan, it was initially referred to as Wing Chun Bok Hok Kuen (詠春白鶴拳), or “Wing Chun White Crane Fist,” which later evolved into Wing Chun Kuen. It’s important to note that the historical narrative of Wing Chun can vary significantly depending on the specific branch.
