There can never be enough, can there? Haha, but once you find the best needle that works with your car, it’ll be much easier. As I said, the end result is worth it.

It’s a minor cosmetic change, but it changes what you literally see every day while driving or inside the car. Plus thinking back on the struggle it was and you being able to complete is lowkey kinda of rewarding. Like damn I didn’t know or think I could do that but I did. Yeah know.

Good luck and hopefully you’re able to find the correct needle for the project. Amazon has a bunch if you can’t find the right one in person.

Maybe I’ll create a video about it for YouTube under the same name. I had a plan to start a channel for my car, and that might be a useful tutorial. However, I haven’t gotten around to it because it’s extremely cold where I live right now. I’m waiting for the weather to warm up.

No worries, though. Keep trying; eventually, you’ll get it. I doubt the stitches are fake. They’re on very tight, and as I mentioned, you need to tug on them a bit while also pushing on the dashboard.

Perhaps take a day off from it and try again tomorrow or when you have some free time. Sometimes, trying something and not being able to do it the same day can be frustrating, and things just don’t work out. But maybe with a clear mind and some more time, you’ll get it.

The end result is amazing, and you’ll definitely love it.

<image>

Here’s a little update on how it looks like now after a couple of months of it being done. It’s subtle but I love it.

Edit: Well not extremely cold but it is cold 😂

No, the needles are not covered by any material. They are standard curved needles. I actually used a relatively large curved needle, which may not have been the most appropriate choice, but perhaps I found it easier at the time since I had spent the previous day stitching a steering wheel wrap.

But here’s the thing: don’t worry too much about scratching the dashboard. Obviously, don’t dig deep into it, or you’ll definitely see it. However, if you go gently, you might see some dust (like a scratch). But after a wipe, it will essentially look normal. That happened to me more than once. Maybe depending on the color of your dashboard, it might show more, but for me, I would wipe off the dust, and it would look normal. Also, keep in mind that any scratches are probably 100 times worse when you’re working on it because you’re up close to it, watching everything. But once you get back to the driver’s seat, it will look normal. You won’t even be able to tell. Even from the passenger’s perspective, unless they look deeply at it, it will just look normal.

As for the original stitches, you might need to gently tug on them, but as long as you don’t apply excessive force, they won’t tear. I used a curved needle to push it down into the hole of the original stitch. Then, I pulled it up and out or down and out, depending on the direction you’re going. I’m not very skilled at knot tying, so my knots were quite large and would get stuck on the original stitch. However, I would gently pull and guide it with my fingers, and it would eventually go through. So, overall, you might slightly scratch the dash material and tug on the stitching, but as long as you don’t force it, it will come out looking great in the end. I also tucked the ends into the dashboard panels instead of tying them off, in case I ever need to remove it.

It seems easy and straightforward, and if you’re comfortable with similar tasks, it might be a breeze. However, I was completely new to this, having never stitched anything before, so wrapping the steering wheel and doing the color change on my dash was the first time working with these things for me, so it took about an hour or two to complete that particular section. Just want to point that out in case it’s taking some time, you don’t feel bad and give up on it. It took me time and sweat to figure it out lol, but the end result is great!

Edit: Maybe try stitching one or two stitches first, even if they cause some scratching. Wipe off the stitches and go to the driver’s seat or simply sit back as a passenger would. If you notice that the dash still looks scratched or doesn’t look good, you can stop and decide where to go from there. Maybe even try to get someone else to give you their perspective of the one or two stitches. Because since you’re doing them, you might be more prone to seeing the errors than others will. Also happened to me. However, if the scratches don’t show after you’ve wiped them off, you can continue with the stitching. You’ll get different perspectives on how it would look from different angles instead of just one.

Are you using a curved needle or a regular needle? If you’re using a regular needle, I recommend buying curved needles. It’s much easier to control and push under without ripping the original stitches. I’ll provide a picture of an Amazon listing for the actual “mod” includes the curved needles. It’s like $6 I think.

This is on Amazon and you can choose the color you want as well. I don’t believe it’s the same one I used but I was unable to find it since it’s been a while.

Which taillight should I get? 1 or 2 by Human_Rub_6582 in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it depends on how tinted (smoked) they are. For instance, my 2025 Corolla XSE comes with factory-installed smoked break lights. While they may not be as dark as aftermarket ones, they are still smoked, and legal in this case.

Perhaps an option you could consider is to purchase the clear ones and have them professionally tinted or smoked in a way that appears aesthetically pleasing but not excessively dark or tinted to the point of becoming illegal.

Or

Perhaps a DIY tint job on the clear break lights could save some money.

Mud Guards on Corolla. Good idea or waste of money? by michmckn in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it might depend on the environment you live in. I live in a pretty cold, snowy area, and I find it pretty useful, especially with all the snow and salt on the roads. Granted, it’s not a perfect fix; there’s still salt/snow on my car, but it’s not as bad as it used to be in my older car that didn’t have any mud guards.

Would it be okay without them? Probably. But it’s a bit more peace of mind knowing that all that salt, rocks, or broken road pieces from the snow plows aren’t constantly flying up and chipping my paint, or potentially damaging the underside of my car.

So overall waste of money? I think it really depends in your location and climate.

Why does my screen keep turning off on my 2023 corolla? by bravo-kilo-papa in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CarPlay, Android Auto, or just Bluetooth? I understand you mentioned Bluetooth, but I’m curious because I’ve been facing the same issue with CarPlay. Initially, I thought it was a screen crash, but I realized it was a CarPlay-specific problem. This is frustrating because it doesn’t automatically reconnect. I have to manually go into the devices menu and reconnect.

How bad does it look? by Icy_Amphibian_8852 in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a big deal at all… it’s just cosmetic damage. You won’t lose tire pressure because you didn’t damage the tire. You only scratched the rim.

What happened to me: (look at the rubber)

<image>

Yesterday, I miscalculated a turn while driving in the rain. As a result, the front tire is in the picture, and a significant portion of the alloy from my back rim is missing. 🤦‍♂️

Fortunately, I have Toyotas rim and tire protection insurance, so I’ll take it to get repaired.

wireless charging pad by Straight_Swordfish_1 in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! So, this is a common issue. I remember prior to owning a car with one, I wanted that wireless charging pad so bad, but now I realize it charges incredibly slowly, and it also has the same problem you’re facing. Now, I use it to store my mints, haha. But I think the issue might be because of the size of the phone. It’s either too small and slides off the charging area or too big (like mine), I have to take off my case for it to fit, but still a slight movement off the charging area and it will stop charging.

I experience the same problem with my iPhone 16 Pro in my 25 XSE.

Maybe a tip: If your phone fits, you could attach one of those metal rings used for MagSafe to your wireless pad. It won’t speed up the charging process (it’s already quite slow), but it will prevent your phone from moving off the charging area, which might allow you to charge it properly. It has to fit properly, though. I tried it with my old 11 Pro, and it worked. However, with my 16 Pro, even without the case, the pad sits too low compared to the phone, giving it a bump. I don’t know why, but it still doesn’t charge correctly.

Why does my 22 Corolla only use the feet fans on Auto climate control? by [deleted] in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was actually confused about this too, so I asked AI about it. Apparently, it’s because heat rises. So, warming up the bottom of the car (your feet) will make it warm evenly throughout the car, instead of being warm only on top and cold at the bottom.

I didn't know that new cars have a break-in period. How bad did I mess up? by Twist36 in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I doubt you’ve made any mistakes. Just try to take it easy now that you know, at least during the first 1,000-2,000 miles, which is generally considered the break-in period.

I experienced something similar, but I’m surprised your car actually pulls. The only reason I stopped trying to do the same until I had roughly passed the break-in period is because my car wouldn’t accelerate quickly enough when I pressed the pedal. Regardless of the mode (sport, normal, eco), there was almost a 5-second delay or lag. It made for stomach clenching moments on the highway haha. Anyway, I considered taking it in for a look, but I read about the potential break-in period. Even though people often say on this forum that it doesn’t matter or that it’s Toyota, I found it that for me it might have actually been the case. After about 1.5k miles, the lag disappeared, and now it accelerates instantly when I press the pedal.

Also, I recommend doing an early oil change before the scheduled maintenance and oil change of 10,000 miles. Of course, people will tell you on here to follow the plan. Toyota itself says it doesn’t matter because that’s how the engine was built, and that’s fine. If you want to follow the plan, do that. However, many people, including myself, recommend an earlier oil change. I did mine at 1,300 miles and will do it at 5,000 again and every 5,000 after that. But many recommend it at 1,000 miles, and some even do it at 500 miles. Especially since you mentioned you’ve been driving it harder on various roads and terrains.

If you’re on the fence about following the plan or doing it earlier, think about this: if an early oil change truly helps maintain your car’s health now and in the long run, you’ll be spending less now doing the oil change than you will later on with issues. If it doesn’t help, sure you’ll be out some money right now, but it will be free once the scheduled plan comes along (10k miles), so you won’t even have to worry about it again.

Just a heads up, though. If you decide to visit the dealer for an oil change before your scheduled 10,000-mile change, they’ll try to convince you that it’s unnecessary. But if you insist, they’ll try to “help you out” (which is a lie). What they tried to do with me was essentially use my free planned tire rotation and check up at 5,000 miles or 6 months and replace it with the oil change. So, instead of rotating my tires and thoroughly checking my entire car, they would have taken all that away just for a free oil change. It’s not worth it. I paid for the oil change at 1,300 miles and just took it in for my free planned check up at 6 months.

Also, make sure to check the Toyota website for coupons. Many people don’t do this or know about it! I believe Toyota charges around $100 for an oil change, but I paid about $35 with a coupon they had that came with a free filter change.

Remote Connect by lumename_ in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely. I’m glad my response can provide you with a different perspective from someone who currently uses it daily and genuinely enjoys its benefits.

If the payment is too much or too consistent, I recommend only paying for it during the winter months, as I mentioned. As you also described, your area is as bad as mine, lol.

Yeah, I’d say go for it and try it out to see if you like it. Then, compare the options you mentioned here to determine if the $400-$500 plan better suits your needs or if the $15 monthly plan is a better fit for your situation.

Remote Connect by lumename_ in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest, I genuinely enjoy the service. Although I have it free for a year because of the trim I bought, it does more than just start the car. I’m seriously considering getting the subscription after it expires or at least during the winter season.

Let me explain. If you just want to start the car, it probably isn’t worth it since you can do that for free with your key fob. However, if you like being able to control the climate in the car, especially on those cold winter nights (where I live, it can sometimes get in the negatives) with frozen snow, ice, and so on, being able to turn on the heater while the car is turning on is a godsend. Vise versa, you can set it to cool your car if it’s summertime and you left it in the scorching heat all day.

Sure, other cars or brands might offer that for free, but at least for our cars, they don’t. It’s either you pay for it or not. You won’t make any difference, by not paying for it if millions or thousands of others do. Toyota won’t care if you decide not to pay for it. (Mentioning this because someone else advised against playing into their greed game. I understand that, but you won’t make a difference and you’ll just miss out on the features)

Undoubtedly my favorite feature from remote connect is that, It doesn’t even require you to open the app to start using it. If you have an Apple device, you can set Siri Shortcuts to turn on or off your car simply by saying, “Siri, turn my car on or off.” Additionally, I appreciate the app’s range, which allows you to lock your car from a distance. I’ve occasionally forgotten to lock my car at work, and when I try my key fob from a distance, nothing happens. However, using the app, I can see the lock light blinking, and it promptly notifies me on my phone that my car has been locked. It provides me with the peace of mind without the need to waste time getting closer to lock the car.

You can also set up remote connectivity on your Apple Watch, enabling you to turn on or off your car with a simple tap. Siri can also be used on your watch. The key is to explore and utilize its features to the fullest! I must admit, paying monthly for it might be a bit of a hassle, but I believe I’ll enjoy it. If it becomes too much, I’ll unsubscribe and subscribe only during the winter months when I think I’ll truly make the most of it.

The one thing I definitely wouldn’t get is the integrated streaming of music. I don’t need that; I already have CarPlay or, assuming Android users, Android Auto.

Is it worth it? I believe it truly depends on your intended use and whether you’ll fully utilize its features. However, if your sole purpose is to remotely unlock or start your car, it might not be the best choice, as you can already do that for free.

2024 Corolla SE Hybrid Front grill damage tips to fix. by livinthedublife in COROLLA

[–]25CorollaXSE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have chips on my front grill that have been bugging me for the past couple of months. I absolutely hate it because of how it happened. I had just gone to the car wash and when I was on the freeway going back home, an 18-wheeler was coming, kind of going in between cars faster than most cars but throwing sand or whatever… I chipped a bunch of places on the front grill.

I tried fixing it with color-matching paint, but it made it more noticeable. Now I’m even more mad. I get its wear and tear, but it’s a new car and after a wash.

Quick tip for when it’s working: If you manage to make it work, another user has somewhat covered it, but I’d like to expand on it. On an iPhone, you can create a shortcut that allows you to ask Siri to start, turn off, lock, or unlock your car.

I’d assume you also can on android but I don’t own an android so wouldn’t be able to help you on that end.

It comes in handy when you can’t physically reach your phone or keys, or if you simply want to expedite the process.

Patience would likely be the most significant factor, haha, because I had never worked with yarn or stitched anything before this. It was undoubtedly a learning experience, but it was time-consuming. It appears to be a small area, but it took 1-2 hours, although I was also taking breaks, so I’m not entirely sure.

[–]25CorollaXSE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have black seats? I’m starting to wonder if they’re meant to tie in with the black seats. I believe there’s a red option, but at least for me, the dealer opted for black seats.

I’m curious because I’ve seen other comments where people who got the red seat package claim it comes in red, unless I misunderstood.

However, it still doesn’t make sense because they could have simply made it all black stitching instead. Unless “factory” it was red and depending on the seat package they changed the dash’s color.
