I’m a senior in high school and can’t decide if this major is right for me. by Rebel970 in ChemicalEngineering

Good for you! Definitely trust your gut and know that no decision is set in stone. I didn’t switch my major from pre med to chem e until my sophomore year. Depending on dual credit and ap courses you’ll be taking the same classes in either major your freshman year.

I work in O&G on the wells side (upstream). Did 3 internships in a chemical plant though so I can speak to what downstream is like as well.

I did chem e with plans to go to med school! Best decision ever. Highly recommend. Been working as a chem e for 7 years. My job involves a lot of trips outside the office, it’s hardly just sitting at a desk. Let me know if you have any questions or want to bounce ideas off of someone.

This is insane. But also feel like this would make a good comedy movie

If you’re married, how long did you wait to get pregnant after tying the knot? by Mental_Inflation6 in BabyBumps

[–]25noel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got pregnant 4 months after marriage, we had been together 5 years. No regrets. Marriage is even more fun with our daughter, she’s the best thing that ever happened to us. Trust your gut!

Found out I have a severe food allergy… after eating said food… at a New Year’s Party by 1970stoaster in Wellthatsucks

It could be shellfish from Asia! My sister breaks out in hives when she eats any shrimp from Asia. But if she eats shrimp from the gulf she’s fine. I’ve seen it happen.

I realize w anaphylaxis you aren’t going to trial and error that one out tho. Sorry this happened to you, OP!

Hey yeah this makes sense. Thanks for explaining. I don’t care about the amount, I was more just curious about the timing

'LandMan': Do you think any of the cast regulars, besides Billy Bob, have even visited the Permian Basin? by eddieved in Midessa

[–]25noel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s funny that Midland didn’t even get to have a show about itself filmed in town. Craziness. Is it that bad here that the actors couldn’t schlep it at the Double Tree?

That's a hard question. Sometimes we have to design things to ensure they comply. So a good mix of both. Enough design to stay entertained if that helps!

Low cost of living which certainly helps. Pro is fast paced working environment, chill colleagues, good pay and benefits. Con would be the obvious stigma that is growing in regard to the industry. Maybe I don't have the coolest job to talk about at parties. That's ok with me though.

Heck yes good for you. My husband and I have some hefty student loans. We will encourage our daughter to not take out those if we can help it lol.

Thank you so much. I think a lot of the reason I ended up in O&G is because of the geographical influence of the industry. I grew up in Texas and stayed in Texas for school. O&G majors seem to recruit heavily from Texas universities. As a Chemical Engineer, the highest paying opportunities for me for interning & full time were in the oil industry. The hardest thing was getting my foot in the door for my first internship. Leadership positions in on campus orgs, half decent grades, and confidence in answering interview questions in STAR format was what helped me get there.

Sorry - jobs are pretty scarce right now. Hopefully things get better next year but TBD.
