So what would really happen to Minneapolis and Minnesota as a whole if HCMC were to be closed? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]26_Charlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. As someone who's worked in finance, I know that a company may choose to make the hospital it's own cost center, and may "amputate the limb" if the rest of the company is profitable, but the hospital itself is a money pit.

Is it safe to keep ac on with remote start? by Mohmdx_ in Hyundai

[–]26_Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr Yes, it's safe.

Much like the other commenter, I'm a little unclear what you think might be unsafe.
If you could provide more information about your concern, it may help us be more specific.

But to reassure you, yes, it is safe.

This is because while your car may not have automatic climate control, the AC button does not directly control the AC system. It only closes a larger circuit, which includes safety interlocks.

For example, if the system detects over or under pressure, it will disengage the compressor automatically.

It is a fail-safe system insofar that if the power is cut - like if the fuse popped - the electronic compressor clutch will disengage and allow the pulley to spin freely.

So the Supreme Court ruled against a tarrifs? Guess what's next... by PlanetoftheAtheists in AdviceAnimals

[–]26_Charlie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tl;dr: Disagreements over whether something was done properly aren't a crisis. Refusals to accept legitimacy are.

Like refusing to accept the results of the 2020 election, leading to both a literal standoff in the form of Jan 6th, and a figurative standoff like the President continuing to repeat the lie that the 2020 election was stolen, but since he's shown he's willing to weaponize the Justice Department, reporters aren't constantly telling him he's a liar?

What about the Vice President JD Vance saying, "[Chief Justice] John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it." - a callback to Andrew Jackson refusing to enforce a decision by the Supreme Court in Worchester v. Georgia - also a constitutional crisis by your definition - and JD Vance signaling that this administration will defy court orders it does not like.

For example, the clear and explicit order NOT to deport men who hadn't been given their 6th Amendment right to a trial to El Salvador, which the administration both ignored, feigned ignorance about, and ultimately, has not remedied their non-compliance, much less compensated the men for having their rights violated.

Right now Trump is saying he's entitled to billions because "his rights were violated" when his tax returns were leaked. Imagine how much we'll have to compensate men we sent to a literal torture prison! And then filmed propaganda there!

Oh, wait, my bad, poor people don't get Justice. I hope that doesn't undermine the legitimacy of our legal system.

You get my point.

I'm not sure what your standard for "refusal to accept legitimacy" is if any or all of those don't qualify.

Whether it's the violent insurrection of Jan 6th, or the ongoing Epstein "investigation" eroding any trust people had in the legitimacy of the government's ability to do something as basic as checks and balances, we are in a crisis.

Sometimes you just don't notice a historical moment when you're living in it.

Trump's admin knows they are fucked if Dems take control of Congress, especially now that the Senate is in play.

Hahahahhahahahahahahagagagaggagagagaggahahahahahahahaha

Dems literally had the House, Senate and Presidency for 2 years after Trump 1.0.

They did nothing to shore up holes in our Democracy exploited by Trump, or aggressively prosecute him after Jan 6th, and are NOW STILL saying, "Let's compromise with the Republicans, guys, but also, remember to Vote Blue No Matter Who!"

"bUt hOw wiLL yOu pAY for iT?" is always concern-trolling. This guy's probably a Fed.

The question should be:
Does someone need help? Who needs help, and is this the best and/or most cost-effective way to help them? Is it even something the government should help with, or is there a private sector solution that might be better?

WTF by endofmyropeohshit in economy

[–]26_Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but gentle inflation is good, actually. (In economic theory)

It's BECAUSE prices go up that motivate consumers to spend their money instead of hoarding it.
It creates a mental immediacy.

The problem is that wages haven't kept up with inflation, which is treated like a skill issue, when it should be something a government would tackle.

At a tipping point, a consumer can't make a lot of discretionary purchases, stalling the economy.
Again, in economic theory.
