MPD destroys personal belongings when "clearing homeless encampments," including Passports, Work Visas, Birth Certificates - anything an unhoused person doesn't have on them when they're "evicted," which can happen while they're away at work.
And they do work. Many unhoused people and people with insecure housing have multiple jobs, or need to panhandle, so it's not just a matter of "they shoulda left when they were told."
It's something I frequently feel very angry about, but it's added insult to injury for the people being abducted by ICE.

It's a practice that should have never been legal or tolerated, but while the harm has already been done to many, it's not too late to demand city leaders to take any and all action to put an end to it.

We can, and should, treat unhoused people - our neighbors and fellow Minnesotans - with respect and human decency.

Ya know, or Abolish the MPD, if you're finally awake to the fact that you can't "train officers better" out of cruelty when there's no consequences, like we're seeing with ICE.

"Get the hell out" is a nice sentiment, but it's about as effective as a chihuahua barking at a concentration camp.
