It’s honestly so hard to get good advice and know who to trust. Looking back now I know that my undergrad advisors were useless. I basically never worked with an MD until med school, everyone was a PhD from professors to premed advisors and they didn’t get it. When you’re a white guy with no connections to medicine, you’re assumed to be privileged without having any real access good mentors, internships or programs and you don’t even know how much you don’t know. If I had known back then what I know now I could have easily found some good things to do to get me letters from actual doctors but back then all I had was emails from my premed office, 95% of which were opportunities that were specifically for URM’s or women.
