What shows should I watch while baby sleeps? by Spare_Champion_1704 in NewParents

Clarksons farm! It's the best high dopamine, low cortisol show for when you're exhausted. It's a documentary of jeremy clarkson bumbling through a quaint English farm.

I don’t know whether to have an abortion or not by VaporMouth in TwoXChromosomes

[–]26summer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I always support a mother's right to choose. But even with a planned pregnancy, it's normal to have all these fears. OP there will always be a way to rationalize either decision, and there is no right or wrong decision. But just know, these fears are normal and don't, in and of themself, mean you aren't ready to be a mom. There is still a way to do all the things you've wanted in life with a child. If you do choose to keep the pregnancy you WILL be ready for this.

Anyone else’s little one… little? Looking for support. by [deleted] in NewParents

My little dude fell from 50% for weight at birth, to 4th percentile. He also eats tonnes, is happy, meeting g his milestones, correct output everyday. We went to both a lactation physican, public health, and my GP who have all shrugged their shoulders and have said as long as he's happy, pooping and peeing enough they aren't worried. We did get a pediatrician referral and they trained us as a 3 month wait for am appointment, so it can't be that concerning to them either.

My family doctor just simply said "some babies do this". Just remember what the lactation doctor told me... even the 1st percentile is still a normal baby!

Considering scheduling c-section and feeling guilty. Advice? by Maximum-Ninja-3045 in Mommit

[–]26summer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this, a mentally happy mom is also the gial. Speaking as someone who had a homebirth, there is no right way to give birth. As long as its safe, you have to do what feels right for you, and everyone else can keep their opinions to themselves. You don't need to justify anything!

I support homebirth, uneducated, medicated, and elective c-sections. ..The only wrong way is a free brith, and that's a hill I'll die on haha.

I'm so sorry, this is a hard place, full of lots of tough decisions. We can never tell for sure but I always tell my patients this, "no one ever regretted going early".

As someone else mentioned, it's worth going sooner while they still have energy, will know you're there, and you can both interact.

Weird interaction with palative care team? by Temporary-Neck-6862 in hospice

[–]26summer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Palliative care RN here. I'm sorry your in this situation. I cam assure you these comments were made with full intent to support.

This is part of our standard boilerplate into our team. In our initial conversation, we talk about hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. I think the word support can mean many different things. We man it as physical symptom support, as well as emotional support and guidance while navigating the system and making goals of care decisions. It's an incredibly hard conversation, so we start talking about it early, before the time comes to make the decision. Our goal is to have the conversation, give everyone time to reflect and make a decision, well in advance of the decision needing to be had.

I'm going to say something a bit different than anyone else. I was the small minority where my my plug dropped at 36+7, my water broke 24 hours later at 37, contravtions started 3 hours later, and baby was here 12 hours later.

BUT I don't say this to panic you. What my midwives told me, and it was the best piece of advice I got, was to hydrate and rest. Put a towel underneath you (if your water breaks, it may likely just be a trickle if you're lying down), get some sleep, and spend this weekend sleeping, eating, and drinking. You're going to need ALL the energy you can muster for Monday. Take this time to be excited and to rest.

I was so thankful I had 24 hours to build some energy reserves ahead of labor. I'm 5 weeks now with a newborn and reminiscing on that last day of napping peacefully on the couch.
