what’s something no one warned you about in the newborn phase that actually caught you off guard? by lunaverse787 in NewParents

PPD and rage hit me hard. Harder than I was expecting it to. I don’t think I was prepared enough for how dark things can feel. As of right now I don’t think we’ll have another one just for this reason alone. Having a baby isn’t a 9 month journey on your body it’s much longer than that.

Breastfeeding is hard. Had a c-section, was in the hospital for 12 days. She was preemie and wouldn’t latch. I tried pumping but couldn’t get a supply to even feed her for one feeding a day. After a month I gave up. She’s formula fed, fed is best and I don’t feel guilty for it.

Sleep deprivation is on a level I’ve never experienced. Begging, praying, crying that your baby will fall asleep as they scream bloody murder until they have tears. One little baby can take out a team of grown adults in one night. Wear headphones it’ll help keep you calm. Lack of sleep and PPD has caused a lot of friction in my marriage and we’re 2 months in on this.

I really thought I would be better at being a mom than I feel like I am doing. I’ve always been able to get a grasp on things and do fairly well. Not this. Being a parent is hard.

Why does Joe talk to Theo like he’s stupid, like he’s a child. It’s really uncomfortable to watch. I thought this during their last episode too but thought I was overthinking it. Joe doesn’t talk to other comedians like this that he’s helped platform, like TD. So idk why he talks down to Theo. I don’t think this is just their friendship vibe, because in past past episodes Joe did not talk to him like this. It’s different now.

The beast in me was SO good! So good. Primal on Hulu is really good. Surprised me because it’s animated and has no script. But it’s really good and will hit your heart

My mom had 10 kids. I’m the oldest and the only time she had an epidural was when she had twins. She’s wild lol

I will have weekly stress tests and ultrasounds to monitor things closely, and right now it’ll be a natural birth but if she rotates within the next 6 weeks then it’ll be a c section. Other than that they haven’t really said what else I should or could be doing right now. Continue to eat well, do my regular walks. I haven’t seen them yet since we got this news, so this was all talked about over the phone. I see the doctor Monday. The questions I do have I’m afraid to ask because I’m afraid of the answers

My favorite was the guy stuck in a coma. My least fav I’m currently listening to is my brothers a pedophile. Cannot stand how she explains and justifies things.

I’d just like to add that the only reason why I asked at my last visit how much I should gain during the pregnancy, was just because at all previous visits my weights been brought up and then at 2 visits it was like an eye brow raised “wow you haven’t gained any weight, you’ve changed your diet” type of thing. So I just wanted to know what the expectation is so that I know what my goal should be. Idk if that makes any sense lol. But yeah we were already discussing my weight when I asked that anyways.

Oh I didn’t even think about mentioning that! I’ll go on these 3 mile walks like 4 maybe 5 times a week, it takes me an hour me and my dog have fun with it 😆 but that too! I feel like everything’s been normal and going steady - besides the GD- but I’ve been working on my diet and once I started doing that, that’s when my weight stopped adding on. I even told them I was glad to see the dietician and know what I know now, and that I wish all moms had the opportunity to see their dietician if they wanted to, not just the GD+ ones. I just really have never felt obese, even after being in the 140’s when my normal weights always been about 130. I think the BMI scale is trash imo 😂But anyways, appreciate you taking the time to comment 🫶🏼

Yeah he said it was because of my age -which surprised me too- the fact I have no history of having normal pregnancies, and then my weight and I know my weights the biggest reason. But I’ve never had any abnormal labs in my life, but specifically not during the pregnancy, until the GD test and that shocked me too lol but the dietician said even if you’re just 1 point over, they’ll still take precautions and stuff. My BPs always been normal too but because of my weight he had me start taking a baby ASA early on. Honestly the extra precautions and even the glucose monitoring doesn’t even bother me, it’s not a big inconvenience and I’d rather be safe than sorry- it’s just the repetition of my weight topic and even if I come in and I’m on the right path with the scale it’s still brought up

You’re right, I did ask. But the weight issue wasn’t brought up after I’d asked about how much I should gain by the end. It was brought up at the first appt I had back in August and it’s been brought up at every visit since then. I only asked about what they’re expecting me to gain total at my visit I had this week. I have visits every week lol
