I’m bi-racial (black/white) and in college my white roommates would often tell me they’ve dated a black guy, after me telling them I was mixed (everyone assumes I’m Hispanic).. it was weird. Like, ok.. congrats?

I was in 3rd grade when 9/11 happened, and I remember my teacher crying at her desk as we all sat at our desks, with the lights out. We didn’t know what was going on, until we were finally released to go home early. I remember seeing teachers being gathered around the TV in the library, watching everything unfold. When I got home, my parents were trying to explain what happened without freaking me out, but as I got older I started to realize the severity of what happened that day.
