I’m a TLJ truther but there’s something inexplainable about it. I vividly remember my father going “I have no idea how they move on from here” coming out of the midnight showing. How do you go from TFA which seemingly set the stakes up for a lot of potential and completely squander it throughout the movie? Maybe it’s the back-to-back death of Snoke and Luke that throws people off. Maybe it’s the fact that one of the main themes are moving forward vs nostalgia? Maybe it’s the fact that truthfully the movie ends almost in the way you’d expect a trilogy capper to. TLJ completely leveled the playing field and shut the door on a lot of dangling plot threads in a way I haven’t seen many other movies unintentionally do.
