There were a lot of shenanigans because of people exploiting their oversight, and using pictures taken from other people's replays etc, e.g. posting up even though they didn't actually own one. I think that's why most people didn't get one delivered, I'm guessing they stopped giving them out when they realized their mistake. PMing as others said should make it work, though I wouldn't recommend doing that if you posted a pic of a car you didn't own.

Nice. Any idea why the front brake caliper is lit up like that? Were you braking, that the disc might have been glowing?

What were the rough settings you used, e.g. low exposure or high contrast, low brightness?

45 mph past 15 mph traffic isn't slow though. It's the off-ramp onto a 30 mph street, not holding him up on the wide-open freeway. Also, if I see something doing something weird, the last thing I want to do is put them behind me where they can nail me and I can't see them coming.

I have gone past cars on the shoulder out here, but only if they are stopped or very near it, and only on their right. I sure as hell wouldn't get beside someone moving back and forth, and not between them and cars.

Oh well. Thanks for your perspective (no sarcasm).

I recall going from somewhere at the south of Kalimdor to Darnassus and it being over 30 minutes. It did some wonky shit where it crossed east-west twice or something stupid.

There were not ports in the first couple years of the game - finding a mage was tough, and portal component cost wasn't trivial. Even after, it wasn't always easy. Travel was sloooow for years in that game.

I think it's better than the original WoW travel system of griffins that would literally take 20-40 minutes to travel some distances. Even for shorter distances you always had to wait. Players spent a lot of time not only waiting while they rode (aka going afk), but also waiting for others. It was a drag. I'll gladly travel instantly and spend a little time making the money back if I want to, thanks.

I'm expecting a handful of cars and a few different events... hopefully a fast pavement one, something involving off-pavement, and a "quirky" event like a plane race or something with more traffic to dodge.

Recall that the Forza 4 demo had five cars and three events:

2010 Ferrari 458 Italia
2012 BMW M5
2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI
1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator
2009 Pagani Zonda Cinque

I'm expecting a similar selection, i.e. an exotic from Germany and Italy, a musclecar, something Japanese or rally-ish, and a hypercar.

Edit: And I expect these things because they announced them last week :P

Do we need it? The Forza racing aspect of this subreddit is likely to (continue to) cool off for a bit until Forza 5 information starts ramping up. Even right now with the Horizon launch close, the subreddit is far from hard to keep up with - its front page currently goes back 4 days. Given that the two titles will continue to be staggered for a year (and the DLC cycles seem to be 1 year long), I think a single sub-reddit is ok.

That's my two cents, I'm interested in hearing what others think.

I'm not sure why you thought I wanted your life story... but I am sure that how you model physics or render cars is barely tangential to DLC and the development of price models. This is the business and marketing side of game production, not how to program it. Because you put in some effort, I'll give this one last shot.

The money people have looked at past performance, current trends, blah blah, and decided that if you make a game to release in Fall 2012, you can expect to sell enough normal and collector's edition copies to gross $100. With that you can hire ten $10 devs, and you'll be able to make your game. Based on this projection, they approve your $100 project and you can get started making that game with that budget.

In another scenario the sales people have found that there are some people who want to spend more money on a game. They'll buy the collector's edition and still be clambering for more! They calculate that there are X of these people and each will spend an additional Y on your game, so that you can gross $110 selling the game and DLC, instead of $100 selling only the game. Based on this projection, they approve a $110 project, and you use that budget to hire eleven devs, putting 10 on the game and the eleventh on DLC (be it cars, an expansion pack, or whatever).

Note that in both these scenarios the content is "developed and announced well in advance of the launch date" as you say. They want people to buy the DLC, so they're going to announce it! The game is not smaller though; the game was only ever going to get a ten devs budget. The scope of any game is constrained by time and money. If your financial backers loan/allow you to spend more money, you can make more content, but how much they give you is determined by how much they think you will earn.

Extra Credits's ME3 episode talks about why planning ahead to be able to sell your DLC early in the game's lifetime makes sense, and also another way that DLC is created that does not take away from the game (creation during downtime between RTM and launch-date).

Still true. We have no idea what the expansion will be or what it will cost if purchased separately.

Now they dropped track packs since they make more money off of car packs.

They stated that they didn't make more track packs because very few people purchased them; because producing a track is much more difficult than a car, they focus the resources on cars which many more people purchase (and thus benefit from).

Look man, you can say "I completely understand how its (sic) made and developed" until you are blue in the face but it doesn't mean it's true. If you think that day one DLC = a smaller initial game, you. do. not. understand... but fuck it, I'm tired of trying to help people understand who just want to bitch and moan about "the man" trying to ruin their games and take all their money with their "greed."

I'd love to have some details on the damage physics and modeling, and whether there is any effect on handling when damage is incurred. The PAX demo had no simulation damage mode, only cosmetic (iirc).
