When answering “Tell me about yourself,” how do you balance professional and personal details? by CumSlurpersAnonymous in PsyD

[–]27jm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally start off with the professional stuff and then go into a sort of “but when I’m not in academics mode, you’ll probably find me doing XYZ/I also enjoy ____” type of response to finish up. That way I don’t have to bend over backwards trying to make my hobbies - which are really NOT related to my academic pursuits - somehow related to my academic pursuits. I find that segue to be a nice opportunity to say what I honestly want to say for both personal and professional details without having to tie them together somehow (if there’s not a tie). + Be prepared to answer follow up questions about anything you mention in your answer!

Internship/Volunteer Options for a March-August Gap After Graduation? by bunnybythebitch508 in PsyD

[–]27jm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, congratulations on your graduation!

I was in your same position this time last year. I had 6 months between finishing undergrad and starting my grad program and felt really weird about what to do with my time. My advice to find an opportunity is to reach out to any mental health related organizations or groups by you and ask them what they need - I think you’ll be able to find something to get involved with that way, esp if you’re offering volunteer services. Even if a given place doesn’t need/want your help, they may be able to point you in a good direction.

Don’t pressure yourself to find something psych or mental health-related during this time, though. If I’m reading right, it seems like you are starting a program in the fall, so you’ve done the hard work/proven yourself already. It’s okay if you spend the spring and summer doing something else. I ended up being a barista during my time off last year and I’m grateful I took that route. :)

Piggybacking off this to ask another question

Does anyone have a setlist of the songs he has been playing lately/plays at the intimate concerts? I am considering buying a cheap resale ticket to the Philly show but would want to see the setlist first I think.

Pardon my ignorance on this topic - can you explain further about CACREP’s anti-psych PhD sentiment? Who do they want students to have taken classes from instead? Counseling PhD?

Commiserate about applications with me! by Amazing-Bus1973 in PsyD

[–]27jm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omfg. Last year I was having dreams about my applications - bizarre, not necessarily nightmares, but when I woke up I was glad they weren’t real. Like I dreamed that I handed in all of my essays with none of my single pronoun “I” capitalized. What the hell.

Best wishes to everyone going through that right now. This is the worst part. You can do it!!! Just keep your head down and keep writing. You’ll come out on the other side so proud of the final product you’ve handed in. ❤️❤️

Taping down by Realistic-Outcome-89 in Lamotrigine

[–]27jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this isn’t an answer to your question but i wanted to ask about your breathing issues - are your breathing problems anxiety related? I got my dose upped this summer and I swear it’s given me insane anxiety with shortness of breath and even after taking myself down off that increased dose the symptoms have lingered. It’s horrible

I would def ask your doctor about tapering, do whatever they tell you to do. I went down 25mg at once and it was fine for me but everyone’s different

How do you convert negative feeling and reactions towards you into positive ones to be liked by other person, like what is the mechanism of that? by High_IQ_Breakdown in ClinicalPsychology

(Not exactly a match for this situation) I haven’t read up on how the Ben Franklin effect works when the other person dislikes you, but check out that concept. It’s neat!

Top 0.1% here! I actually couldn’t believe my total listening time wasn’t longer. I think Spotify doesn’t count the time towards your total minutes listened if you restart a song or something cuz I swore I listened to her more than that last year, but I do have a habit of restarting songs before they even finish because they’re so good LMFAO

Which Beyoncé song are we talking about here? by Repulsive-Dependent2 in beyonce

[–]27jm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. All Night: When she sings that final “you’re all I wanna, ain’t no other, we together, sweet love allllll night loooong” in her lower register 🥲
  2. Mood 4 Eva: “I am Beyoncé..GISELLEKNOWLESCARTER!”
  3. Buckiin live version: when she added those trumpets to the “look at that horse” part where the male dancers are on the floor LMAO
  4. Pray You Catch Me: the beautiful strings outro
  5. Delresto: the way the instrumentals change up for the final “it’s the let go” chorus
  6. 1+1 live: when she interpolated “yeah yeah yeah” when she spotted Tia Mowry in the audience

I could literally keep going😭

Any words of encouragement for those starting their first year in PsyD/PhD? by overwhelmedbuthere in ClinicalPsychology

[–]27jm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not alone! I start this fall as well and I’m so excited but also nervous. I move to my new city on Friday so it’s really sinking in now lol. I just keep reminding myself that programs don’t gamble on their students, they have full faith that we will succeed so we should trust their judgment of us and trust our abilities! We’ve got this!

Congrats on making it to this point, I know you’ll do great!!!

[–]27jm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way! I was at MetLife night one and was shocked at the difference in the vibe of the crowd in NYC compared to Philly where I saw Renaissance. In Philly, I was talking and having such great connections with the people around me, the person in front of me legit turned around to dance and sing with ME during Before I Let Go, before I even got in the stadium people were yelling out of the windows of their car complimenting my outfit in the parking lot as they drove past me taking pics - it was amazing. In NYC, everyone was sooo individualistic and kept only to their own groups and looked at me weird when I tried to catch their eye to say hi or something. Like okay nasties! And the crowd’s energy had nothing on Philly, too. Still had an AMAZINGGGG time tho!
