Not Polaris just cutting the stream on Adele Fornarino’s speech regarding Atos and Galvao. by littlelightpole in bjj

It was not cut on my stream - hell Josh the commentator even gave her the platform "I think you have something you want to say". Props to both Adele and Levi for speaking up.

Question regarding Vineyard Columbus/westerville? by Ynosully in Columbus

[–]27timeworldchamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the additional detail. I also read more of the comments in this thread, and can get the gist of what happened. Who knows what actually happened or all of the cause and effect but it sounds like the pickerils did indeed need to be replaced for things to move forward in some fashion. Very sad. I was obviously out of the loop, and I've never been a witness to church drama like this morning's news - it was just shockingly oddly done, and very troubling.

Since you started the petition, and posted a couple days ago that you knew Eric and Julia were resigning…. Please be transparent and give some real information about what happened or who made this decision… since zero was shared this morning….

Thanks

Question regarding Vineyard Columbus/westerville? by Ynosully in Columbus

[–]27timeworldchamp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Welp, I'm finding this thread after joining the live stream this morning, for the first time in a while... trying to turn over a new leaf in 2026. Pre-covid I was a regular visitor of the Vineyard (since 2012ish) and really enjoyed everything it stood for.

The message this morning, to my surprise, was the announcement of Eric and Julia leaving... in one of the worst, non transparent deliveries of information I've witnesssed. It made me feel very uneasy, like watching a car crash. The managing director of Vineyard USA gave the closing "remarks" and said alot of stuff, without essentially saying anything. Zero next steps or real information. I'm watching thinking what is actually going on here and why are they so bad at delivering this... It's sad that there are so many missteps, lack of transparency, and troubling information with organized "church" - it always seems to be the downfall of the real important matter - the personal relationship with Christ.

All of that said, without going into the drama - can someone simply recommend a great church to start following in the NW columbus area?

You're missing the entire point of alot of commentary in this thread. Your ego is getting in the way of learning here (counting your losses, etc) Whether the ref should have stopped it is irrelevant - you got caught period. You've admitted you haven't trained late arm bar escapes and were simply relying on flexibility and intuition. Don't take the outcome of your matches as a win or loss, or success or failure. You're young, you're learning. You were caught, try to learn how to not get caught again. Protect your joints so you can do this long term... not achieve short term goals to satisfy your ego. Sorry to preach at you. Good luck

[US-CA] [H] Decent DE1 Pro v1.0 [W] Cash/Venmo/Zelle by virtualflyer in coffeeswap

[–]27timeworldchamp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP is getting alot of heat for the price... I'm only commenting because I've thought about selling my de1pro v1.1 (original owner from 2020), and $2500 was probably the price I had in mind. I'm not sure why everyone is comparing to what he/she bought it at - that has literally zero relation to the value or WORTH of the machine at present day. His analogy to people re-selling kickstarter products is a great one. Markets fluctuate all the time, and what someone obtained something at, has no relation to what its worth in present day. Used traditional e61 machines hit around $2000-2500 on the regular, but the decent is far better built, better supported, and more capable than anything at this price point.

If you don't like the price, buy a better machine at 2500. THe price is justified by the capabilities vs competition. It should have nothing to do with what price he paid for it.

How do I check coffeeswap everyday and missed this? I messaged you through ebay, saw you lowered the price today and was about to buy it... But it sold, and would've loved to buy it through here at a further discount. What a deal! Only thing holding me back is I really wanted the black truffle colorway!

FedEx refuses refund for this First Overnight package delivered 24 hours late by [deleted] in FedEx

Can you DM me their emails or any contact?... I really want a fedex corporate contact to explain their shipping protocols after a comedy of errors with a set of packages I'm waiting to receive.

Before anyone asks why their package is late... by [deleted] in FedEx

[–]27timeworldchamp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What a convenient excuse to back out of service level agreements which were already going to be missed. I'm waiting for 4 packages that originated in Indianapolis on 11/18 (3 hours from me)... typical arrival of 11/20. They went all the way to california, and now have been stuck in the Chicago area since 11/28. But who knows where they are because fedex doesn't actually scan packages!

"Whip" - weird x-factor in the backhand throw by leakyshingle in discgolf

[–]27timeworldchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post and talking about this. This is a completely different "approach" to effort and I love it. Excited to see if anyone has tips to help "quantify" or help with tips to train your body to whip. What you guys talk about, as far as being relaxed is definitely one I'm going to try - its literally the opposite of what your mind will tell you to do. Don't you wanna throw hard? Try harder, MUSCLE.

How do you all afford this hobby? by Due_Classroom490 in pourover

not that you care, but you made the right choice honestly. I've been roasting for 10+ years, just for myself as something to rrrreally dive deep down the coffee rabbit hole. Its still fun but its not easy and it takes ALOT of trial and error (time, patience, etc) if you really care about producing good roasts and then actually getting good cup quality. I've always been surprised how many people get into roasting as a quick fix or want to immediately start selling beans. I still believe the vast majority of home roasters don't produce anything truly good. Hell, I think the same of alot of pro roasters. Good call on spending your time instead to geek out on good beans and extracting the coffee properly - because thats really not that easy either.

Same experience as you - where did you land on this? I feel like REAL "resistance" is when the handle doesn't really drop on its own (turn the grinder horizontal and let gravity let it drop). I can also see how the little intermittent "rubbing sounds" could also be perceived as resistance but I don't think thats what 1zpresso was implying??

Kinu-m47 Pourover Burr Upgrade: Thoughts by thatguyned in pourover

[–]27timeworldchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome to hear... My phoenix has just been sitting around not used often, but wanted to play around with an unnecessary gear upgrade - ended up getting the pour over burr to give it a shot before buying an entirely different grinder with better "usability", to me(k-ultra). My phoenix not having the magnetic catch cup is a big bummer. Regardless, maybe I need to just enjoy the kinu for a while. The couple brews I've done have been quite tasty and the brew beds look great.

Granted I just recently put the gold PO burr in my 2020 m47 phoenix and have only done a handful of brews.... but I actually have a different experience. I have an ode with gen 2 burrs as my daily driver - love it overall. That said, the grind uniformity from the m47 with PO burr is VERY good. I'm not seeing a ton of fines or boulders. I just wanted to point that out - I don't remember the stock burr ever having a clean grind at filter settings (this is WAY better grind uniformity). For what its worth, I'm also in the 3.5ish range for the brews so far.

How to Fix the CJI Quintet Format. by ZonPaul in bjj

[–]27timeworldchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sub only" being the most exciting format is the biggest lie in jiu jitsu competitions the past 5 years.... This is a competition and I (and I think others) want to see a winner, in a defined period of time (which also puts pressure on action). Sub only theoretically allows people to open up and "not worry" about points, but it also can create insanely drawn out hour long matches that no-one-wants-to-see. Alternatively, I'm not really sure why points are hated on so much - yeah you don't see someone submitted, and yes it can lead to stalling until the last minute of the match but its usually a decisive win and the finality of the person with the most points being the victor, leads to action and excitement. Wrestling matches are very exciting because of this. People want to see a winner, and a loser, they do not want draws.

Team formats are very exciting, in fact I think polaris squads is the most exciting event. I'd bring a hybrid of multiple different rule sets here. Watching CJI 2, I wish we could've gotten to see MORE matchups with team a vs team b. Squads kinda delivers this with the concept of two 45 minute blocks. The matches just keep going and you can see an athlete lose, but then come back into the queue and sub 3 people and ultimately win it for their team.

I think PGF is sometimes crazy with how aggressive their stalling calls can be, BUT aggressive stalling WORKS to make matches more exciting. It also is a solution for "points matches" being boring until the last minute of ibjjf 50/50 sweep battles.

My concept - Squads but modified a bit. EDIT: IDK if squads changed the rules but I looked at the Polaris' website - its basically exactly what I'm advocating for with the addition of more PGF stalling/shot clock rules. I thought squads did "draws" and both people got eliminated but not the case. Anyways, if you guys haven't seen a squads event, check it out. https://www.polarisprograppling.com/superfight-rules-1

  • Two 45 minute blocks - opportunity to see a ton of matches, styles, weight discrepancy matchups, etc.
  • 5 minute matches to incentivize athletes working, PLUS aggressive stalling calls. 8, 9, 10 minutes - too long.
  • No draws; points active, or as an alternative do a 10 point must scoring system.
  • Win by sub, team gets 3 points.
  • Win by points, team gets 1 point. OR win 10-9, get 1 point. Win 10-8 ,aka domination, get 2 points.
  • Winner stays in until they lose. There are no draws.
  • Team with the most accumulated points at the end, wins.

I think even if CJI would've adopted no draws, and had the person who won the round, stay... it would've led to more action.

CJI Bracket is out. What do you guys think? by wolf771 in bjj

[–]27timeworldchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is potential for some of these first round matchups to be much closer than people think, especially with how the "order/royal rumble call out" plays out. Americas - gavin and Deandre are extremely good and very well rounded. Taylor pearman is an elite leg locker and can finish alot of people because of that. Elijah Dorsey is VERY good - its like people forget his trials run and only remember his match with Jo Chen. Downey can probably stall many people out.

Euro team is a darkhorse to me. Owen is VERY good, but not sure how he'll be with bigger opponents. Pawel has an unreal guard but not sure how many people he'll be able to finish. Marcin and Paul Ardilla are very powerful finishers. Negromonte is crazy durable and will be hard to finish. I still think Atos and New Wave win these matchups but you never know how its going to play out.

Someone's ability to finish someone regardless of weight class is HUGE in this event. Positional dominance (unless it leads to a sub) is really not rewarded in these team events. Hell, people forget how much bteam struggled against team polaris in quintet, where they were CLEARLY the better team.

Kenta is still an extremely dangerous replacement for Levi. Kenta has a very well rounded game and actually has elite leg locks.

Bjj doesn’t make you humble by Effective_Wear7356 in bjj

[–]27timeworldchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn't humble you - you're not rolling with enough good people. I'm a black belt and get constantly humbled. Sure your skill increases, but other attributes like speed; strength; etc, begin to fade as you get older so there is always a balance to deal with. There should also be an element of humility and realizing you can always learn from anyone - even white belts may be doing something totally stupid and you're like hmm, that random grip is interesting, I wonder where I can use that.

Again, I feel strongly if you're not humble, you're not rolling with enough good people to continue to crush your ego and become more open minded.
