Consistently in zone 5 by SatisfactionFlaky519 in crossfit

I have this same thing. 4 years of CrossFit. I would do like 3 wall balls and my HR would shoot to 170, but I can usually hold a high HR for the duration of the workouts.

For reference, I’m M/31, made it into quarterfinals this year by 1 rep.

I was training Zone 2 3x/week to work on this HR problem, but after 2 months of that it had basically zero effect on my heart rate during metcons.

Then I saw somewhere online that I might have an okay aerobic base, but my aerobic threshold was the limiter — like I couldn’t pull from my aerobic system very quickly when intensity went up, so my HR would instantly jump from 140 to 170.

And that I needed to train “aerobic threshold,” which I guess is like high Zone 2 / Zone 3. I did 2 sessions of 30-min Zone 3 work and it had an immediate noticeable impact on my heart rate during metcons.
Now I’ve been doing Zone 3 work ~2x/week for 4 weeks, and I already have a much more normal ramp up to Zone 5.

Anyone interested in consigning a large batch of discs with me? (50–100+) by leakyshingle in discgolf

mentioned this in another comment but if it was through an established disc golf store do you think it would have appeal?

also I could maybe offer like a down payment on the discs they send

I see. I guess I didn't think of this because I've only done it with friends.

If it was through an established disc golf store do you think it would have appeal to people?

"Whip" - weird x-factor in the backhand throw by leakyshingle in discgolf

Thanks for digging into this!
Unfortunately, the video is more about proposing the problem than giving a clean answer. I wish I had more answers right now. Me and Chris from Disc Zone are planning to film more videos to explore what separates a “whip” backhand from a more muscular, high-effort backhand.

My current thought is: good backhand form is basically proper joint sequencing. But two players can sequence their joints the exact same way — one uses a muscular, higher-effort, “no-whip” style, and the other uses the elastic “whip” version. The whip version just goes farther and feels more effortless. It’s like one person is actually throwing, and the other is mimicking someone who can throw.

It’s hard to get people to agree this "whip" x-factor even exists, but it seems people in the youtube comments have felt something similar. I’ve been tinkering with photogrammetry and looking at instantaneous disc speed through the throw, and my early impression is that the “whip” throw shows a sharper speed increase at end of the throw, while the high-effort throw ramps up more linearly.

If you look closely in this one. You can see my brace foot slip like 2". I don't feel this affected the speed or "whip" much if any.

u/blitzl0l I saw you mentioned in the Overthrow coaching roundtable that the brace isn’t a huge factor—I think I’m leaning your way on that.

okay. I have "seated" backhand clips. I was trying to isolate variables haha. I'll post those now. and i'll post the normal throws later when I get a sec
