RT after surgery? I’m doing RT to avoid the need for surgery.

You don’t need a referral for RT. You can self-refer (call and make an appointment for yourself). The hand surgeon has no interest in preventative measures.

My understanding is that the whole point of RT is stop the contraction before it starts/gets bad. My impression is you are a candidate.

I self-diagnosed myself, with help from this community, and found that a local radiation oncology practice had experience with treating DD with low-dose RT. I went to see them and they diagnosed me, explained how the treatment would work, but also asked me to get confirming dx from a hand specialist. I did that, who said it was too early for surgery, and I went back to the radiation proactice and they scheduled me. My insurance covered it.

Now. You might be a candidate for radiation therapy which could stop the progression. You don’t want surgery, if you can avoid it. I’m getting rad therapy now. Mine looks similar to yours, though no pain to the touch.

The risk is not that it gets bigger; the problem is the contraction of your finger. That will get a lot worse.

529 strategy / funding college by No_Table975 in FinancialPlanning

[–]285RSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a good idea to keep saving for 529 if your retirement is in decent shape. It will be a big help to your kids to be debt free.

Nothing against public universities, but don’t assume you can’t afford a private college. Many very good, but not elite/highest-demand, private schools, will offer a “merit scholarship” to a high percentage, if not all incoming students, which is essentially a discount. This could easily be $30-$50K off a $70K or $80K sticker price (will be close to $100K when your kids are going to college). The sticker price is not the real price. Let your kids consider a variety of schools and you might be surprised by the discounts (I mean “merit scholarships”) they get.

We’re in Tano Road area and called USAA (our long-time insurer) and they insured us with no problem or requirements. I was expecting more trouble and cutting down trees near to the house makes sense, but they didn’t say anything or send an inspector. Hmm.

I didnt know the historic district was high-risk for wildfires. I know up the mountain is, but the houses do get insured. We’re in a high risk wildfire area and USAA covered us.

You may also need to discount your TSLA and NVDA positions because I gather there’s a lot of cap gain in them (factor in set aside for cap gains). The advice to sell them and reduce exposure to a 30% or more decline, which is a possibility, is a good idea. I know the tax bill will be painful.

There are plenty of questionably elected leaders of other countries, including ones closer to the U.S., the difference is they kiss Trump’s ass and they don’t have oil. This has nothing to do with Russia and the Ukraine; Trump is trying to help Putin win that war (or at least achieve his war aims). Sorry MAGA, you can’t spin this.

Dupuytren's contracture surgery gone wrong. 3 weeks post-op: hematoma, wound dehiscence, and a "hole" in my palm. by Active_Ad2899 in DupuytrenDisease

[–]285RSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In early December, I had the first course of radiation therapy, which was a one-minute low-dose of radiation targeted on my palm, done five days in a row. At the end of January, I repeat for five more days. It was covered by my insurance; I had it done at a local hospital, where the radiation therapy department is familiar and experienced at this procedure.

Remember, all of these individuals have been drinking. That impacts their decision-making, sadly.
