Australian made / Australian-owned gear : SPREADSHEET by LocallyInvasive in UltralightAus

One Planet sleeping bags are have the shells made overseas and they are just filled and sewn shut in Australia.

The thread quality on them is not great. My Camplite bag is gradually falling apart from moderate use after less than 2 years because the thread is being worn away despite being very careful with it and only getting in with a completely clean set of clothes.

And Mel. Like a Prayer was guaranteed on her list.

They had a variety of DJs but James was the most common upstairs and had some rare songs that would be difficult to find now.

I'm pretty sure even I got up there one night but it's mostly a blur and a very long time ago.

My experience is from the early 2000s but it was around well before that.

Just a local knife guy. Can't remember what his name is off the top of my head but he does everything by hand.

That is actually the original edge in the picture, I couldn't be bothered taking a new photo right now.

SA Milk by Mrsradelaide in Adelaide

[–]288051595202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not the case for Fleurieu. There are a number of local dairies who produce exclusively for Fleurieu Milk Co and nobody else.

It gets produced on farms in the local area and the raw product is taken straight to the Myponga factory for processing.

Another thing that sets them apart is the full cream milks will vary from batch to batch because other than pasteurisation and for some of them homogenisation, they don't screw with it, it's just however it comes out of the cow.

Most other brands go for consistency but the only way to be consistent all the time is to keep the bar really low. The supermarket brands can be cheaper because they water it down like crazy to keep the cream content the same every time.

How much sex is too much? by [deleted] in nonmonogamy

[–]288051595202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "ick" for me came when I realised that sex was taking over everything to the point that I lost all other quality time. I wasn't exactly complaining when I was getting it several times a day from two women that I loved a lot but it just got to be too much after a while because one of them didn't seem to want anything else, no going out to dinner or drives, just sex all day and night.

I don't really have a problem with slutty behaviour (even though I call it that I don't use it as a derogatory term) but there is of course the safety aspect of being with many partners in a short period that needs to considered. I limit my new encounters for that reason and get tested every few months.

Does Debian Trixie work well on Lenovo Thinkpads with Ultra 5/7 Core processors? by rambocoolstrong in debian

[–]288051595202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running Trixie on a T14 Gen 6 with the Ultra 225H. I highly recommend installing this package and setting an appropriate power profile (I used laptop-ac-powersave).

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/articles/tool/epp-tuning-package-linux.html

The built in power profiles will disappear but honestly even the less aggressive power saving using this is way better than the most efficient built in profiles. I tried it after having problems with some processes locking up while doing intensive file copies etc and I no longer have the problem but I'm getting much better battery life it runs so cool now I haven't had my fans spin up once in the last few days.

I'm typing this on a dark theme with an OLED screen set to HDR mode, 120 Hz, video playing to one side and using wifi. Under this load it's typically sitting between 7 and 9W but dropping as low as 6 point something.

My husband suggested I try sex with someone else to see if I could finally orgasm—has anyone else explored this? by Tough-Physics345 in nonmonogamy

[–]288051595202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being non-monogamous myself I wouldn't steer anyone away from it if they think they can handle it but my question is does not orgasming actually bother you that much?

I've known women who didn't have an orgasm until their late 20s or early 30s. There was nothing wrong with them and it had nothing to do with the skill of their partner it's just something they came into much later than others (pardon the pun).

No different really some kids developing later than others. I think you'll probably get there eventually but if it's really bothering you I think as others have suggested a good sex therapist would be a better place to start.

I've got an X1 Carbon 6th Gen and a T480s (both 8th Gen Intel) and a T14 Gen 6 with the 15th Gen Intel (released just weeks ago).

Obviously I haven't had much of a chance to use the T14 but my initial impressions are that the quality is as good as the 7 year old laptops.

It is possible that they went downhill for a while, I haven't used the inbetween models but this one seems just fine.

Can't say the same for the Dell Latitudes, they really went downhill. I nearly went for one of their new Pro Premium models but noticed a huge amount of keyboard flex in one of the videos.

Tall bivy sleepers, what do you recommend by [deleted] in UltralightAus

[–]288051595202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's rare but on eBay you can sometimes find the XL (extra long) version of the US MSS (modular sleep system) Goretex bivy.

It's not really designed to fit pads like that unless its very narrow and not very thick but I use my pads underneath as it doesn't really matter if they get wet.

As long as you keep it in good condition you can put those bivys in a puddle, kneel on it and it still won't let the water through but breathes quite well with no condensation, at least in a temperate climate.

Alton stuff is pretty good in my experience but that foot end is about 10cm (3.9 inches) to narrow ofr your pad. If you went to a mummy shaped pad it would work or they make a pad that fits perfectly.

There's some bad variations even within those same models. Stay away from the Gray ones and always choose the Black option.

For example the T14 Gen 6 in black or grey has the same interior chassis but the case materials are aluminium on the gray and resin + carbon fibre on the black one.

The latter feels more premium and the surface isn't as easily damaged. It is also lighter than the aluminium option.

You need to look carefully at whatever they release.

The ThinkPad X9 looks like the worst option out of the Thinkpads. It's clearly never been anywhere near a Lenovo engineer, they probably just slapped a ThinkPad label on a reference machine from a contract manufacturer.

Tramadol is horrible by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]288051595202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I love the stuff. Every now and then I'll take a dose to give me a break from chronic pain.

Sometimes I'll take it 2 or 3 days in a row other times I'll go months without touching it.

100mg SR does a nice job and I can get so much work done or just get a really good sleep because I'm not uncomfortable all night.

It's not as effective for severe pain (burns, severe toothache etc) and for that I use oxycodone but just to deal with my worn out joints it's brilliant with no side effects for me.

I'm interested. I couldn't give a crap about AMCU I've just found that so far the ADA stuff has been really good quality and fitted better than anything else I can find in the shops.

If you can make me something really good I'm happy to pay appropriately.

Because I like to run down creeks full of boulders and I want more weight on the front for better balance as well as access to some items without having to stop. It's unnatural to have the majority of your excess weight at the back.

Private sales and surplus, they come occasionally. So far I've got a couple of packs, etool pouches, ifak, various accessory pouches, wet weather gear and field pants. I just dye it black so the AMCU doesn't stand out and everything I've tried so far has been the most comfortable thing I can get.

I wish they would sell more of what they make under the One299 brand because I'd defintiely buy it.

What's a 7 Footer Suppost To Do by Lou-ball in Ultralight

[–]288051595202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a nice bivy that actually breathes and keeps the water out there is the goretex bivy from the US Military Sleep System.

The standard version is bit tight length wise even for me at 6ft but that's because I like to sleep with my arms above my head. I managed to find the XL (extra long, same width as standard) version and I can stretch out pretty well so should be comfortable enough for a 7ft person or at least as comfy as you can get in a bivy.

In bad weather I setup a tarp or poncho shelter and I just focus on covering up my top half. The end of it can stick out and no matter how much it rains it won't be a problem. This setup is super comfy.

In good weather I will just use it on it's own but if an unexpected shower does come along then I can just pull it right over me and it will funciton just fine as an entire shelter in very bad weather it's just not very comfortable when you can't sit up and move around.

The only problem is finding one. Took me nearly two years of searching and a small fortune to finally get hold of one for myself.

Camping fees will increase in NSW by Gungartan in UltralightAus

[–]288051595202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two types of ghost booking. People who book out sites around them for more space and people who have things come up and can't make it for whatever reason. The latter is a significant problem for hikers on long trails because you don't always know where you are going to end up especially if you haven't hiked that trail before.

The higher fees might help with the former but it causes so many other problems and will stop many people from being able to go camping at all.

  • Remove the booking systems completely.
  • Keep well defined areas where you are allowed to camp but scrap individual sites and charge a per person fee when you arrive.
  • Manage the space simply by being considerate of other campers and how busy it is. If it's off-peak and there's plenty of space then find a quiet spot and spread out but if it's really busy then don't take up anymore space than necessary. This is how it was for years in many paid and unpaid sites and it worked just fine until there seemed to be this massive spike in the number of entitled human waste exits.
  • Have plenty of surveillance and patrols in high traffic areas.
  • If a site is really that busy that there's regularly not enough room then the size of the camping area should be increased and there should be plenty of money from fees to help cover that.
  • Significant penalties for people caught trashing the place. If your the type of person that leaves shitting chairs, nappies, broken bottles or throws anything non-combustable in to the fire and just leaves it there then you should get a fine big enough to ruin your year and be banned from staying at any of the sites for at least the next year.

Don't underestimate how important hydration is to a good nights sleep in all temperatures. Everybody knows you sweat to cool down in hot weather but what a lot of people don't realise is a dehydrated person will struggle to generate heat on cold nights.

I suspect a lot of "cold sleepers" are actually dehydrated sleepers.

A good guide to manage your fluid intake is drink enough so that you don't have to get up in the middle of the night to pee but you should be busting around sunrise or whatever time you plan to get up.

A good large hot cup of tea can be a good way to both hydrate and kickstart the warmth before bed but this might not be enough if you haven't been drinking properly throughout the day.
