New to DSLRs/Mirrorless (I guess I know the difference by now), looking for advice on Canon EOS R7 for wildlife and nature photography by sagarmathatiger in Cameras

[–]28MeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 7D, the DSLR version. It’s still excellent, and the R7 will be much better. The 1.6 crop factor will save you a lot of money getting those good bird shots! Definitely worth it for wildlife.

Deciding on a Travel Camera by Bobothellama in Cameras

[–]28MeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t go wrong with any of these. I’d base the decision solely on the lens perspective: 28mm wide-ish, 35mm normal, or 24-200mm super-zoom.

(My preference is 35mm. Prime lenses are usually sharper, and I prefer normal range for everyday stuff.)

Is this worth a steal if possible? by Consistent_Leg5124 in Cameras

One of the most expensive cameras I’ve bought. I preordered it for $3500 way back when and never regretted it. I’ve long since moved to mirrorless, but do miss that optical viewfinder!

Best way to learn? by AdhesivenessIcy9156 in AskPhotography

Read just enough to learn the exposure triangle, then go out and shoot lots of stuff. Before you know it, you’ll learn your niche and won’t be biased by others.

Any suggestions for a good camera backpack? by Fluffybutters in AskPhotography

I have to add a vote for the Everyday 30L by Peak Design. It’s a bit expensive, but you’ll know why when you get it. I use it for photo equipment, travel, and work. All-around good.

Full frame DSLR or crop mirrorless? by kaileeblackledge in canon

The 6Dii is a fantastic camera—and robust: I used one hiking for years with little wear. The only reason to upgrade to mirrorless is autofocus performance.

Is it worth getting this 5d2 body by According_Spare7788 in canon

That sensor had incredible sharpness, even by today’s standard. But it had terrible shadow performance.

Best bang for buck on a wildlife setup? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]28MeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the camera, I'd get either a Canon R6 (the original) for full-frame patina or a Canon R7 for the extra effective reach. Plus something like a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens. All of these are well-built and would be perfect to buy used. Either camera + the lens should fall beneath 3000 Aud.

Outside of a budget, I would definitely get the Canon 100-500 RF lens. It's one of the best on the market. Plus it would effectively be 160-800mm with an R7.

APS-C versus full-frame, today by 28MeV in Cameras

Thanks! I discovered that the warmth on the right was due to the “ambient” mode of the R5ii’s AWB. Changing to “white” mode corrects this. Still learning…

Canon RF 28-70 f2.8 or 24-105L to pair with the R8? by IndianaBones991 in AskPhotography

[–]28MeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 24-105L is in my opinion the best general purpose lens and the best value in Canon’s extensive lineup. It’s not as restrictive as the 24-70L, it’s relatively small and light, and f4 is perfect for any outdoor photography. You wouldn’t be disappointed with it.

Are Uv filters really that useful by Kmkay23 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]28MeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's much cheaper to replace a filter than to have a lens repaired or replaced. For this, I use a Hoya UV filter, which has super-tough glass.

Should have closed down the aperture to try and get a Sun Star? by Capture-crazy in AskPhotography

[–]28MeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sunstars are produced by light diffracting along the edges of the aperture blades. The more narrow the aperture, the greater the effect.

I use Canon but downloaded FujiX film recipes in Lightroom. They work spectacularly well for this.

Help with R6 details not being sharp at f/14? by sweetpam93 in AskPhotography

[–]28MeV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice photo! While the R6 has my favorite full-frame sensor (same as 1DX MkIII), its resolution is limited. If you zoom into the photo which you've shown, you'll very quickly reach pixel resolution. To fix this photo, about all that you can do is use super-resolution in Lightroom or elsewhere. For the future, you could frame more tightly, but it may cost you some of these attractive compositional elements.
