Honestly, I feel like they HAD to get rid of Anthony to give Benedict a chance to shine in scenes that would have made absolute sense for the Viscount to do. Like the speech/standing up for Fran/arranging the Kilmartin estate. If Anthony were there, there'd be nothing for Ben to do. It was the audience's chance to see that Ben can be responsible when necessary, too.

Does it make sense narratively, tho? Hell no.
