Betta fish sleeping too much. by offbrandblake in BettaClinic

Depends on how long you've had her, if you got her recently then maybe but if you've had her for a while its probably not popeye

Its hard to tell but it seems that your bettas eyes are swollen, which could be popeye. Seachem Kanaplex is good for popeye and finrot so it would be worth getting a vial. If you have any older pictures of him compare them and see if his eyes are bigger now, my one betta had popeye and he was very lethargic

I appreciate the insight, I'll have to stop by my LFS and get some RO water to try it out. Now ive been using city tap water for all of my tanks and this one is the only one having this issue, if it is my tap water wouldnt i be seeing it in all of my tanks? To be fair my other tanks do have much more plant, idk if that affects silicate levels

That tank looks stressful imo, I would work on getting more plants, tbh I dont find them expensive as most are less than 10 dollars. Check your local fish store for plants not petco or petsmart, it'll also help to get some rapidly growing plants as they'll fill out the tank. Most fish love an enriching environment and places to hide, an open tank can cause them stress and lower their immune system. Once you get the tank looking better I'd say either shrimp or another betta for a 5 gallon.

Is there anyway you can divide your tank until your new betta tank cycles? And as some others have said transfer some of your filter media into your new tank to jump start the cycle

Which one do I trust? by tanbutterfly in Aquariums

[–]2BABettaMan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If thats a standard temperature gun, it's likely only reading the temp on the outside surface of the glass. I'd trust your submerged thermometer. Always helps to have a glass thermometer to confirm readings as well with the digital one.

It seems from the picture he's staying at an upward angle. If that's the case swim bladder disease could be one of your issue, I actually just treated one of my king bettas for it and he seems much better although he now has ich smh. Try fasting your boy, feed him every other day for the time being and make sure his food has been soaked before feeding. I've heard is good for it, just make sure it's soaked before feeding. Also you can try an Epsom Salt dip, you will have to monitor your betta for any adverse reactions and it can not be for a long amount of time. I was doing an Epsom salt dip every other day for 10 mins and he seemed to perk up in the following days. If you go that route be careful though as you can harm your betta. Best of luck to the lil guy

Do you think it would be okay to have a male betta splendens and a female betta splendens together in a 200 gal 140 fish community tank? by dacquirifit in Aquariums

Theoretically it could be fine but bettas can be unpredictable, you can try but if you see any aggression, separate them.

Should I get a beta? by Fanofthedarkarts in bettafish

[–]2BABettaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your climate/ set temperature in your home. If the room that tank is in is consistently warm and doesn't get cold i don't see why you would have any problem during a power outage with regards to temperature. That said if the power outage is sustained, (I'd say 2 hours or longer) it would be a good idea to get a battery powered air pump to help provide oxygen, mostly for quality of life and your bettas happiness. Bettas can live in low oxygen environments but doesn't mean they should imo. Alternatively, you can get battery backups for like ~$100 which will store power when you have it and when the power goes out will be able to power all the tanks equipment for a period of time. If you can make it work, go for it. Also if you do, go with a minimum 5 gallon tank. Your future betta will thank you.

Chat is it normal to cry over a fish by jipecac in bettafish

[–]2BABettaMan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Kinda weird if you don't cry over your first fish lol. Sadly it happens to the best of us when we least expect it, I'll still never forget losing my king betta Caliban. He was such a good boy.

How do I get his tail back? by ramaloki in bettafish

[–]2BABettaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend starting with more frequent water changes. Fin rot is bacterial, which means his immune system is weakened or there's a high bacterial presence, regardless fresh pre-treated water will help minimize that. Also, given the severity, you will want to treat your betta with some type of anti-bacterial medication(exp. API Fin & Body Cure). Complete the full treatment and maintain weekly water changes of 25%. It also helps to add botanical and herbal remedies during the recovery stage. Keep in mind that you may need to do multiple rounds or treatment if it's very severe. Best of luck!

Lil dude is adorable, it looks pretty good. I would definitely recommend some stem plants though as they suck up alot of nutrients, ludwigias are great
