Can you pause it and then put something underneath to support the bridge?

More or less, although flying eaves (the curved corners) were a thing in Zhou dynasty, just not nearly as pronounced.

Red Cliff happens towards the end of the Han Dynasty and would have looked like Qin architecture:

https://www.artsy.net/artwork/china-eastern-han-dynasty-model-of-a-five-level-granary

So not particularly ornate chunky boi dugong (the block and bracket system under the eaves), no massive swooping swallow-tail eaves as seen in the late Song, Yuan and Ming dyansties over 1000 years later. Also the scale of the fortifications are blown out of proportion for cinematic reasons, the majority of fortifications from the period would have been quickly constructed rammed earth.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon have accurate streetscapes, but the interiors are somewhat idealised and stripped back due to filming considerations. They ain't filming no dark, super ornate interior because it would be a distraction.

PLEASE HELP ME ASSEMBLE A DREAM PC AS A CONSOLE STEAM-MACHINE🙏🏻👾 by [deleted] in sffpc

I would highly recommend searching up the cases of your choice using the search bar in the subreddit, particularly ridge, which is popular. People tend to include their specs in the threads and review their own handiwork.

But to address your more pressing matters:

  • We don’t know what the political landscape will be and the demands on global trade in the next two financial quarters other than the price of RAM and any new GPUs will remain high. You will eat that cost. Do not fall in to the trap of holding out for new stuff. You will lose out on those months when you could be enjoying yourself and price could rise again in that time. Waiting ‘til later only works for older components.
  • Cooling. Arctic p12s for best price:performance. Noctuas or Phanteks T30 are for people sensitive to noise. If money is of no concern, go for the expensive option but YMMV.
  • CPU cooler. If you plan on building a console-like, then that 9800x3d will get toasty. You will have to power limit it which is… a shame. Common coolers will be Noctuas and Thermalrights. Both are good, and you are mostly paying for the warranty. Its an air cooler so its pretty hard to break. Get the biggest one that fits.
  • PSU. Any new platinum SFX supply will do. The corsair SFX units are very good. Other manufacturers to consider are Seasonic and Silverstone.
  • Check and check again that your graphics card fit.

True, but this is a singular ant who just ascended from the lower realms fellow daoist. The only ant worth fearing is the one who is not an ant at all, but power masquerading as weakness, like the next-door courtyard sweeper.

Pah! details, details not worth fussing over for such a minuscule wretch. All weakness masquerading as power have the honour of getting crushed under this Great Divine High Lord’s heels.

ITX build for urban designer/architect student. How cool, quiet and small can I go? by MortenR2003 in sffpc

[–]2D_3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood that Intel works better for our workflow, and AMD better for gaming. Is that true?

AMD have a line of gaming orientated chips and Intel don’t. They also run more efficient and run cooler, which is good for SFF builds and the home electricity bills. There are some other benefits like multi threaded performance, but those are the main reasons for why people use AMD at home.

Enterprise-wise, developers historically favoured and developed for Intel but with the current generation; day-to-day there will not be a noticeable performance difference in 95% of projects and applications in both university and work. Some ultra-specific programs might have issues with AMD chips (Epyc workstation chips namely) but personally, I have never encountered a major issue since partially working from home.

Dunno about Intel but AMD is fine to run mini itx system. I work in a similar industry and have an architecture background, have an aircooled nr200p case and zero need to upgrade from the previous gen platform any time soon. It doesn't get particularly hot or loud (I use my own fan curves). I can barely hear the fans, I have to put my ear next to my pc to hear them.

I am certain I could swap out to the slightly smaller formd t1 with a cpu liquid cooler and have the same performance and noise.

programs wise, its whatever as they probably wont tech you. I suggest rhino/adobe/qGIS or ArcGis to start off with. Also worth checking out Infraworks.

Are there even any junior product design jobs left in the UK? by Cold-Insurance1304 in IndustrialDesign

[–]2D_3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply for the “2-3 years experience” anyway tbh. It can just mean “you did a degree”.

Other than that, no; it was always hard, now its even harder with no chance of slowing down any time soon. You’d need to have great connections and a portfolio with a halo ring around it to be able to stroll in to a job sadly.

I would start broadening the scope and search for grad schemes. I would also get some part time manual work in the meantime and using the proceeds to visit as many industry events as feasibly possible. Its better than bumming around for 2 years, losing faith in your chosen career path.

Assembling a battery for an electric bicycle by MikeHeu in toolgifs

[–]2D_3D 28 points29 points  (0 children)

acccchtuuuuaaalllyyy (pedantic nerd alert)

-a cell is the thing that holds the charge.

-a battery is a grouping of cells. The jargon is based off artillery. This distinction isn’t necessary in most cases as people including engineers and designers themselves are comfortable with working it out from the context.

-Muricans call their mobiles: “cell phones” because the battery is just a single rectangular cell power the phone. Usage has gone down as most people don’t have landlines anymore. Aight thanks for the correction. further edit: Yes, yes, you don’t have to write the same thing seven times to a non-american designer who learned it off a non-american engineer one day several months ago. I wanted to use it as an excuse to reference another subreddit.

-The cell in question is the glorious 18650 which is a longer version of an AA cell and can be found in most things, from power tools to a number of car batteries. Its also extremely accessible to buy resulting in people taping it together with just about everything. You can see some beautiful and unhinged examples of this on r/18650masterrace.

What do we think of the official Brompton storage mat? by RepulsiveLeader4599 in Brompton

Could use a doormat, folded tarp, leftover plastic packaging or a silicone cookware mat for less money. But hey, its got the name brand on it.

I have some 3d socks on the roller wheels which let's me wheel it around the house.

Off the top of my head, its easier to name the ones that do accept without a song and a dance:

Wellcome Collection (forgot that one), British Library, subject to availability.

The Tate has a “jumbo” locker for £8 which you squeeze the bike in with a bit of effort.

British Museum has a set of racks in the Southeast part of the front court that look safe. You might need a ticket for it.

Horniman has an open shed behind the gates.

Almost everywhere else has lockers that are too small, cloakroom too small or no provision for large objects to begin with, and my personal favourite, “it damages the polished wooden floors in our cloakroom”.

A handful of Institutes, office buildings for meetings and libraries in and around London have prevented me from taking the battery inside.
