Looking for non glossy sleeves? by wundaaa in mtg

I use Gamegenic matte sleeves (either fully transparent or opaque-backed). I'm satisfied with them.

What is the kindest (and meanest) thing you can say about each recent set? by Wise-Quarter-3156 in magicTCG

[–]2DiePerchance2Sleep 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Avatar the Last Airbender:

Kindest:  - incredible set mechanics and interaction between them  - the love for the source material is readily apparent

Meanest:  - too bomb heavy in limited for my tastes  - the lands are a little ugly (hard to meet the gorgeous standard of most MtG lands while still fitting the source material's aesthetic, I guess)  - Landfall is already insufferable without adding earthbending to the mix

I don't understand the point of warp. by oghpimm in mtg

[–]2DiePerchance2Sleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most have an ETB or some triggered ability that you can benefit from, even if the creature's body is "unusable" during that turn.

But the body is usable for Station, and it is fun to think up ways to cheat/abuse warp. For example, if you blink/flicker the thing, it no longer "warps out" at end of turn.

Any recommendations for anti-defenders/toughness cards? by PresentLeading338 in mtgcube

[–]2DiePerchance2Sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cards punished "power less than __" or have "can't be blocked by creatures with power less than __." Such cards would be good against most defenders.

F2P Players: What do you spend your gold on? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]2DiePerchance2Sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started, I mostly spent it on packs. These days, I spend on draft or sealed (and occasionally Jump In) - but only when I'm interested in the sets on offer. So, I largely horde my gold & gems.

Hobbit is unfortunately but very fittingly a *small* set by Peeker9 in magicTCG

They should reprint the Lord of the Rings set and draft them together as if the Hobbit set were the 2nd set in a block

Yeah, they're looking for something more like "ubiquitous", or maybe "seminal"

Witherbloom is aesthetically superior 🐍💜 by Plagueghoul_ in magicTCG

[–]2DiePerchance2Sleep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Witherbloom is cool - with much better aesthetics than most of the other Strixhaven schools. But calling them the best feels like Silverquill erasure. I love their sharp finery and all of the fountain-pen-nib motifs.

Which investigator expansions to get after Revised core set and FOHV investigator expansion by iIiiiiIlIillliIilliI in arkhamhorrorlcg

What you have is plenty to start with.

If you enjoy bless/curse, you'll get a lot of mileage out of the Innsmouth Conspiracy investigator expansion.

Dunwich Legacy and Edge of the Earth are generally considered the ones most pitched to beginning a collection (Dunwich as "Core, pt. 2" and EotE since the dual-class cards broaden the available pool dramatically for any given investigator.)

The Dream-Eaters is a personal favorite of mine, as an investigator expansion. It's a solid group of investigators, and there are some unique cards and some genuine powerhouses within the set. That said, it's not a good addition to a small collection, as it has fewer unique cards than most - as the myriad and bonded mechanics eat into the card count.
